Welding help required
Help [if possible] can anyone advise me if it could be possible to WELD a small piece of metal to the END of a Honda moped ..... the nut has sheared off, its a shame cos the bike is a bit better then spares ,I have managed to drill and tap the shaft, dead centre, so i could make a threaded bit to join up .......THANKS

i have drilled and tapped the crank to accept a threaded 15mm piece so that it screws into the crank then weld it up and grind it back carefully.

Pointers are...mig,1 ton per inch, rutile or general stick welding 60,000 pound per inch then resin cored mig no way as it's rubbish,if it's possible to get a V on both sides personally l would use a hard facing or dissimilar welding rod of 2.5mm as the crank will be of tensile steel of unknown property's,done correctly it may hold and not crack but no guarantee's as it comes over that it's a small shaft with no room for errors.

Couldn't you use Loctite 638 if all you are doing is securing a length of thread ?.
