Exhaust leaking help

Post by Wuyang » Mon Feb 22, 2021 12:29 pm

Finally got another bike, it’s a Transalp 600. The exhaust where it inserts into the can pipe was leaking badly when I got it. This was due to the male pipe been too short....I had this welded at a motorbike shop and it worked for a short while. It’s now leaking again, no where near as bad but bad enough to annoy me. I tried some exhaust cement pushed down the joint then tightened the clamp, but it just sets and fall out.

Is there any product that would help seal the gap where the fumes are leaking that you would recommend.

Thanks
Wuyang

An old exhaust bodge used to be a tin (eg heinz beans tin,) with both ends removed, and cut to for a curved strip.

This was wrapped around, inserted where necessary, and kept in place with lockwire and/ or jubilee clips.

A guy I used to work with had a Fiat with a repaired exhaust like this, also wrapped in silencer bandage, that went through 4 or 5 MOTs without needing to be redone. The car failed its MOT on uneconomic-to-repair chassis rot before the exhaust bodge failed.

8-)

I'd have a go with that too, used it on stove flues.

Reminds me, time to get the Firegum out to seal the C90 exhaust for it's MOT.

Does this stuff set hard, crack then fall to bits?
