Re: Honda vision 110cc up hill speed
It’s business as usual with the new one. The bike has now covered just under 6000 miles and I’m still on the stock tyres which are on their last legs and the brake pads will need doing in about 1000 miles I’m guessing. All the extras I fitted are working well. The little scoot never misses a beat despite the 46 mile daily commute into Edinburgh (round trip).
I have made one change to the lights. I now have two spots fitted which fill out the dip beam instead of a spot and a flood. I have also fitted a new H4 LED bulb made by OSRAM. It only consumes 14 watts and it’s better than the Philips one I was using before. I guess technology moves on and things get better. The cut off line on the beam is excellent in the Vision 110 lens and main beam is really good too.
I’m going to fit the winter tyres this week if I get chance as snow is forecast close by and it’s getting cold now in the mornings. At the same time I’ll probably have the fork legs out and change the oil for something lighter and do the brakes at the same time. Valves were a little tight on the first check but have been fine since.
I keep thinking about selling my CBF 1000 for something smaller and lighter like a V-Strom 250 or a Royal Enfield Himalayan but after some of the posts I’ve seen on YouTube and other forums, the Himalayan is now a big no no. The Vision 110 is definitely staying though. It’s costing me £8.50 a week in fuel to cover 200 miles and I have the spare engine and other bits I stripped from the written off scoot that I had before.
Should see me through about 50,000 miles then!

The REs seem to be getting a bit of stick .I like the look of the Yamaha YBR250 .

Re: Honda vision 110cc up hill speed
To be fair it’s not small stuff that you would forgive that’s seemingly surfacing as problems. Things like steering head bearings being done up too tight, cracking frames (BMW G310GS also) and weeping cylinder heads. I’ve also read about fuelling problems leading to overheating and pinking, clocks misting up and general noises. Not really small stuff and when you consider I’d be coming from a big Honda, I’d probably not be happy with it long term. It’s such a shame though as I have been watching the progress of the Himalayan roll out for months and it’s not given me the confidence to buy one. Add into that the stories of slow service and a general relaxed attitude to people’s problems with their bikes and it’s game over. Let’s hope they launch another updated model and it’s a world apart from t current one. I’m sure they are not all like that but I’m not prepared to take the risk on one.
I’m not sure I’d want to buy a YBR250 either but each to his own.
CRF250 rally looks nice but might be a bit high for me hence the interest in the small Suzuki V-Strom 250. We shall see what the new year brings.

My liking for the YBR is 138 kg weight, 4 gallon tank, 90 mph so good for motorways and 260 + mile range.

Those are really good points I never considered. I like the Suzuki V-Strom 250 because of the fuel range given that when you get right up the top of Scotland you can scratch around a bit for petrol stations and it’s seat height. Whilst it’s a refreshed Inazuma 250, that’s not a bad thing if you want a 250. It’s only the weight that lets it down a little but it also has a big tank so you can’t have it all I guess. I used to look at the Inazuma and think if it had better screen and luggage options I’d consider one. That’s now happened but it’s prising away the big bike from me now that’s the problem. Would I miss the power on tap, great brakes, good road manners etc etc? I’m guessing it’s a yes but I’m sure I’d be happy with a smaller bike.
Are there many YBR 250’s around?
