Well I'm doing something I said I'd never do. Standing on the foot peg first and using it as a step to through my leg over. (Yoga next). Once on, I can get both feet flat on the ground. Problem with me is not getting my leg over, but clearing the right hand pannier.

If you stand on the foot peg to get on the bike, what happens if it digs into soft ground or the sidestand (made in India) gives way, remember you've also going to ride this bike light off road and on adverse camber junctions where you have to flat foot the bike. Brittle bones and wasted leg muscles don't help as we age.

Might have to agree with you.
Any chance the bike could be lowered? A friend, now 84, was not using his NC750 as he couldn't put both feet flat on the ground and was considering selling it back to the dealer. We told him to ask about lowering it which was done by the dealer. Front and rear by about 40mm, side stand cut and re welded. The only fly in the ointment was the centre stand, we made a small ramp for him to use to get it onto, he's dropped it once using this in his garage.
Can't keep him off of it now. He's been organising rides all summer. Very frustrating!

If your mates NC is the X model tell him to use the S model centre stand, they ( the s model ) are 30mm down on the X and the s stands work well.bikerbaker wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2019 10:29 amMight have to agree with you.

I have done it for a few lads. My own X-ADV has the same size ( S ) side stand but the Centre stand is much longer.

Good call, thanks very much! It is indeed an X. Will give him a call but he will probably be out riding.kayz1 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2019 11:07 amIf your mates NC is the X model tell him to use the S model centre stand, they ( the s model ) are 30mm down on the X and the s stands work well.

I'm very aware of this. That's why I mentioned yoga. Laugh you may, but it works very well as a discipline for both on and off road racing, and after two days of practice, I can put my leg up and over the saddle standing side on. I'm 'old', maybe I'm lucky as I've lead a hard life, but so far age hasn't caught up, yet.dmw1950 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2019 10:00 amIf you stand on the foot peg to get on the bike, what happens if it digs into soft ground or the sidestand (made in India) gives way, remember you've also going to ride this bike light off road and on adverse camber junctions where you have to flat foot the bike. Re: New toy - Enfield Himalayan
Well I have just 28” inside leg and I can flat foot the Himalayan.
The Sterling has me on tip-toes though.
OTOH I could flat foot the Harley easily and with forward controls it was easy to paddle about but wheeling it about when not in the saddle was a tad fraught.
It’s not all about seat height and weight, there are other factors at play.
