ATC70 recoil starter

Post by bikerbaker » Mon Aug 05, 2019 10:42 am

Anyone got one sitting in a shed!

Forlorn hope really but might save the aggro of rebuilding one or paying the stupid price of getting one from the States. :D

Whats up with yours? If its the cord just make sure you get the right size as too thin and the knot will pullthrough. You have to preload the spring to fit the cord.
If looking for another one dont get one from a TRX70/90 as not the same fit.
TRX90.
Only one finger and not the 3 of the ATC70.

Yes they can be a pain to rebuild if some of the bits are worn.

Thanks Steve. Not seen it in the flesh as got sent pics of it by my son in law, an hour before they went on holiday.

At least one of the pawls had escaped and it looks like a spring has straightened and poking out of the plate.

Will know more in a couple of weeks

Yep looks like one of the springs for the pawl, you can see all the spring bits in this on ebay.

This lot opens like a jack in a box when you take the top C clip off.

Thanks for the warning, did wonder. I have some nice spring clamps to hold the plate when taking the C clip off. Will have to clear a space on my bench to take it apart.

CMSNL have a limited stock of springs and pawls etc so will probably order from there when I get it here. If it needs the plate he will have to wait for that kit to come from the States.

Told Rich (son-in-law) that there would be help on here. He couldn't understand why I ride Cubs as well as bigger bikes. He's a ex biker who's not allowed another one and once refused a go on my C90! He wanted to ride my Buell but my daughter found out and that plan was scrapped!

I'll make a small biker of him yet.
