Honda c50 zz 1981 900 pounds SOLD

Post by johnwobrien » Tue Jul 09, 2019 5:00 pm

First registered in 1981, bought by my wife in the spring of 1982. Used over the summer months (until 1985) to commute to and from the local hospital. Other than the occasional foray round the garden to keep the mechanical cobwebs at bay, she has languished in the garage for 34 years. Decided this spring to get her up and running (properly) again....spent more time and money than I'd care to admit to (!)..... but it's all been worth it to hear her running sweetly again. Other than new tyres, (Honda) exhaust, a refurbished petrol tank, and the usual consumables she's very original and complete (down to the little plastic inserts in the leg shields) with a genuine 3100 miles on the clock. She's by no means concours but she pretty tidy for her age, only very superficial rust here and there, but certainly nothing major, and perhaps more importantly, the rear end is solid.

The bike's in Houston, Renfrewshire, 10 mins drive from Glasgow airport.

Hi Folks,
Thanks to all those who have taken the time to view my ad, bit surprised it's not been snapped up, so what's the problem? Too expensive, too far away, not a 90? Yours thoughts would be welcome.
John

I'm no expert but could be a combination of things. Bike sounds great to me but then I'm not in the market for any more at the moment. Even though I might be safer on a 50!

Might be your location has something to do with it. Does it have an MOT? I know you say pics available via email but people are lazy and a pic or two on here might make a difference. It's not that hard to do either by direct upload or a third party - I use Postimage sometimes.

Are you on Facebook? If so this forum has a "feeder" page on there and more importantly a dedicated Buy and Sell page. This might get it to a wider audience. :D

Try an advert on here-https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/cat/15/673/ its free and reaches a lot of people .
I think most on here already have cubs, and the 90 is far more in demand than the 50.
There will be someone somewhere who wants it, all youv'e got to do is find them. :D so gumtree, preloved, and if all else fails, e-bay.

John without wishing to offend but comments above seem fair.
For me & yes it does appeal (but I have no workshop nowadays)

1) it's the distance as a £900 bargain suddenly becomes a £12/1300 moped with courier costs & I can buy newer (not classic mind, local) I know this from when I sold then didn't sell mine going the other way

2)To fly/train up and ride back is both expensive (unless tickets bought well in advance) & non motorway time restraints dictate (I'd need a mega gate pass off the war dept to take that long a break)

3) 90 more desirable than 50

4) local youth here would happily nick and rag the tits off of it but offer it as a means of transport they couldn't be arsed as a bus pass via higher education gets them about and they don't get dirty. Also £900 buys a lot of cider and grass.

5) most on here have more projects than hours to finish them & impulse buys are expensive

6) Insurance is currently insane my £70 a year pizza bike was quoted as £1700 if I used it to make a living (It's twice it's value + some)

However having attended Bentley bike night yesterday the ecleptic mix of rides was astounding and as Mark states there is somebody out there for yours it just a change of sales platform, also in this world folk are lazy & a picture paints a thousand words make it instant to the viewer - if you book them they will come (Wayne's World 2)

You taken the time and effort to get the bike up and running. Seems silly just to sell it. You could enjoy the bike for a while. No doubt there is plenty of stunning scenery around where you are. Plenty of single track roads as well. That is where Honda Cubs seem there happiest. But if you are wanting to sell plenty of pictures help. Plus we like been nosy

Thanks guys, what a nice bunch you are, not sure whether I should sell it or keep it now(!) .While I ponder, I'll try to get some photos up - don't hold your breath though, not very good on the techie stuff, might wait for my daughter to visit to give me a hand.
Thanks again for all the advice,
John
