MSX125 Grom running lights

Post by davebike » Fri Apr 12, 2019 7:20 am

May be on interest

I hated the grom's orange running light (indicators on dim) so disconnected them and wired up white LED strips in the hand guards I fitted
Since I fitted them I imagined one or other Strip was intermittently faulty as I seen one or other to be out but they were always on when I looked properly ! This morning I sussed it
The running light on the side an indicator is switched on goes off !!
Thanks owner of shiny car in front of me in roadworks !

I don’t understand what it is you’re saying. Please explain as I’m interested in this thread. I’m also interested in how the side lights can be indicators. How does that work?

If you look at modern cars since (insert recent date) all new cars have to have day run lights (as the myopically stupid aren't capable of knowing how to use lights properly)

But when the indicator is used it cancels out the white day run light so as not yo further confuse the said typically stupid SMIDSY brigade

If you look at a grom the indicators light up half brightness when the bike is running and then turn into ordinary indicators when needed so orange light all the time.

And EU allowed and even encouraged the car makers to make lights only on the front of the cars, so that the dimwits drive round in pitch darkness without any lights on the rear of the car.
In the old days, it was strictly illegal to have any kind of lights, however dim, on the front of the car, which could be turned on without the rears lighting up as well.

You can fit switchback LED's so that you end up with white DRL's and orange indicators on the grom (if fitting LED's you'll need to swap the relay behind the headlight unit).

The standard indicators are fine in fact very good it the orange glow running light I dislike hence white led on hand guards as sold I yet to see an LED indicator half as visible as a 21w bulb unit I think it because Orange LED's are single frequency i.e. a single colour where as a bulg though an orange lens or orange coating in multy frequency and a wider angle of vision
Power consumption is not an issue with indicators as mostly there not on that long

I be adding LED indicators as a back up, strips on the handguards so the Running light cutting will be good and help

I thought it was illegal to display amber running lights/side lights at the front of a vehicle. Is that not the case then? Thats why I was interested in this thread because there has been much discussion on other forums about this very thing, people having amber side lights on cars, bikes etc and getting fixed penalty notices for them.
I wonder if someone knows how Honda get that past the department of transport or whoever governs the lights allowed on vehicles?
