An unplanned short bimble.
Yesterday I had yet another of my many medical appointments. Usually I have to use a taxi as there’s nowhere to park Ruby but yesterday was definitely a ‘bike day’ and I was able to park nearby. Doctor things were all over and done with by 11.15, it was warm and the sun was shining . So I thought “I’ll drive up to Ally Pally” to enjoy a bit of the unusual weather. I got up there, had a panoramic look of the London skyline and as it was still only 11.35 thought “I’ll take a short drive down to the river”. Off I went but halfway there decided to extend the ride out to Epping forest. I thought I’d give Connaught waters a miss this time and carried on past the ‘bikers tea hut’ and on to the Epping Forest visitors centre where I picked up a copy of a free magazine that I wanted. Sat outside there for a while watching a ‘clattering’ of jackdaws on their bird feeder and noted that they’d chopped down a piece of the wild forest to plant wood shavings! In other words they’d tidied it up a bit. What a shame. I used to see all sorts crawling around in there, now it was barren.
It really was quite warm so off came my coat which I stuffed into the topbox. As it was very warm I gave in and drove to Connaught Waters where there’s always an ice cream van parked up. I bought a coke, found a bench and sat there sipping from the can whilst noticing that there wasn’t very much wildlife around anymore.
But it was still nice to get out of the hustle and bustle (not to mention the stuffiness and pollution) of city life. A nice ride through forest lined roads, sunshine and shadows with minimal traffic, so refreshing. Our Cubs are made for this sort of thing, tootling along in no particular hurry, just enjoying the ride for what it is.
A quick stop off at the local supermarket for munchies and a supply of ice lollies and then home.
43 miles in total.

Not far. Because of the town roads, eg, traffic lights etc, it's about 20 mins to 1/2 hr ride away.

That is the visitor's centre, not the tea hut.Diesel Dave wrote: ↑Sat Jun 17, 2017 6:16 pmDoesn't look like it.....

Did the Sterling get plenty of attention?

No peace for the wicked.
I'm getting more used to the attention now- and I haven't hit anybody at all this week!

Yep, that's it. Why have they chopped down the trees and bushes and covered those areas in wood shavings? There used to be a tree there with a big bracket fungus on it.

I don't know to be honest. This was taken in Feb 2016 when Richie organised a meet up there.
It was my first visit to High Beach.
