Anybody into vintage British iron?
Having bit of a clearout, looking for a good home for this 1943 Lister 2hp petrol stationary engine, made in the days when this country was still good at making things! Is in full working order, also a starting handle and trolley with it, pretty cool way of retro-powering something in the workshop i'm sure. Asking 75 quid, probably worth that as scrap! Great little tinker toy....

I'm sure somebody will find a use for it Pjam! It's 350cc, liquid cooled and British (sorry Yamaha, we were there first!! ) And it will chuff along all day at a beautifully governed 1000rpm... is an amazing piece of engineering!

Re: Anybody into vintage British iron?
Pjam, i'm sure with suitable pulleys it would be quite capable of driving the sander, a bench grinder and a pillar drill.....or a compressor....Pjam wrote:I do need something to power a bench belt sander..... bit OTT

Re: Anybody into vintage British iron?
I've run it fine on unleaded Pjam, it is a very over-engineered low revving thing! Probably wouldn't do any harm to shove some redex or other fuel additive in there to be sure Now, as for Mrs Pjam taking it by train....if she can heft a 300lb stationary engine around, in your shoes i would be a VERY frightened man indeed!!!Pjam wrote:Mrs Pjam going to North Yorks on Monday! don't think she'll get it on the train though Cor a, women!

Liquid cooled? That might make it a good candidate for a boat engine?

Re: Anybody into vintage British iron?
I wouldn't know if it was capable of that Leiba, the liquid cooling is somewhat simple.....pour a bucket or two of water in the hole on the top, run the engine, then when you're finished turn the brass tap on the side to drain it! I think it's more or less a farming/pumping/generating/workshop machinery powering sort of deviceLeiba wrote:Liquid cooled? That might make it a good candidate for a boat engine?
