Army Goretex Trousers 34" Waist - Cheap waterproof

Post by Moo. » Sun Nov 23, 2014 7:08 pm

Got a pair of Army Goretex Trousers i picked up from an army surplus, but the legs aren't quite long enough.

I'm a 32" waist so got a 34" to fit over kevlars etc..

I assume they've been issued, but they're in very good condition.

Tag has been cut out so don't know the exact measurements and i don't have a tape measure.. So i assume 34" waist and a regular leg.

Looking for £12 posted or pick up from Kingston Upon Thames for £10

Good way to get waterproof for winter on the cheap. Have bought a longer pair which i've used a few times in the rain (after my last generic hiking trousers all got crotch rot...) and they're decent, seamed up well inside.

Are elasticated around the ankles and waist, with a pull cord for larger/smaller waist. Really easy to pull on when it starts pissing it down..

I'm a 32" leg and they go nicely over my boots when standing up, but when sitting down they rode up my leg a bit.. So i got a pair with a longer leg.

I think the actual leg length is 30".. but is longer when standing because of the large seat area..

could do i suppose
how tall are you ? im 6ft1 , ive a couple of pairs of boots but mostly wear the shorter ones

The trousers ive got are supposedly waterproof but the flat seat of the cub seems to pool the water where you sit and it seems through

The sailing industry stuff tends not to be breathable, so sometimes get drenched by your own sweat.

What kinda of trousers you using Matt? Kinda like walking waterproofs?

I've had crotch rot on a fair few pairs.. i think eventually most things give up :(

You are right it aint breathable but when are we going to be sweating whilst riding a Cub in the rain? Different on a bicycle but i wouldn't wear it then

I have been using this stuff for 5 years now and never come across that prob in the UK. I wear it over my normal m/c gear which is a leather jacket and Kevlar jeans, never a prob ;)
When it stops raining i take it off, roll it up and pop it on the front carrier, simples :!:

There has been a few times when it has been a hot day, and rained..

Or quite often if it is a foul day and you go into the supermarket... can't be arsed to take off my waterproofs.. get the sweats.

On a recent trip to Europe though, i would have loved those sailing trousers... had some generic hiking waterproofs, crotch started leaking 10 miles into a 200 odd mile trip across Switzerland (Interlaken) to Italy (Bormio) Across the alps... was wet, cold and freezing :(

Out of interest, does the sailing stuff still use the flat seams to seal the stitching?

The seals on the cheapy hiking trousers looking like selotape glued on, but on the army surplus stuff it looks like goretex material..

The one pair of trousers i do like for reliability are some Klim Goretex ones, very pricey but have never had a leak, but also have clever ventilation which allows air in, without the need to get through a waterproof membrane, so on a hot day after rain, open up a vent and your betty swollocks are aired out
