Just a bit of chat, nothing meant by it!
Yes pattern exhausts are readily available and a damn sight cheaper! But they're not the quality of a Honda exhaust. They're sometimes badly fitting and the chrome surface breaks out in rust after one winter. The pattern ones are probably ok if the bike never sees rain and is kept in a garage when not in use.
I wonder if Honda still has the OEM ones made or whether these (that dealers have) are just left over new old stock?

Just to add a comment about pattern pipes,I was told by Geoff Ward,VJMC guru,to run 4 strokes on 100:1 premix.......helps protect the inside of pipes on 4 strokes against rotting out
I know there'll be comments about incorrect/weak mixtures but I run my " cubs " on 100:1 and they're OK in regards to mixture

Mod's/Petelomas sorry this is taking your thread right off topic (can it be moved elsewhere?)

But I'm intrigued by this & as you don't want to get into a mixture debate.

So for every litre of fuel you add 100ml of 4 stroke engine oil?

This may extend the life of the bacofoil exhausts fitted to new scooters! but surely if you run the scooter regularly up to operating temperature and give it some throttle the water and acids will burn away without causing issue and by the time your mix had got through (on injections)surely most of the oil will have burnt away on F1 as the lambda sensor would adjust the fueling to compensate?

Though I can see a merit with carbs

Is this not for collections which are run little and stood often

Shame nowhere have NOS OEM 6v C70 exhausts, im probably going to have to pony up to get mines rechromed. I did manage to get the heatshield and the bits that hold it on. And i did buy a pattern part which is fair to say utter shite. Still sat in its box

I will suggest that Honda stuff isn't what it used to be either. New Old Stock, yes, but the new, new stuff is crap in a lot of cases. I have a fifty year old ST-70 that still has the original pipe on it, I also have two original SS50 banana pipes and they are solid. The new ones are rubbish! There used to be a great many reviews on CMSL about these new Honda pipes, I cannot read them as my computer is too old, don't know if they are still there or deleted. I do know the new pipes rot from the inside and snap after a short while. Honda are using junk Chinese steel in their manufacturing these days, much of it is no better than slag, and it rots in a jiffy.

I have just purchased a pattern David Silver C90 pipe and will let you know what it's like when it arrives. I can still get a genuine Honda pipe for my C90 but I have lost a bit of faith in the new stuff. Honda, like everyone else, are riding on their past reputation I'm afraid.

I did purchase a pattern pipe from David Silver and it was bad! Had to get a genuine one in the end.
