1986 c90mg £1200 ono Ilfracombe SOLD

Post by GrahamT » Tue May 31, 2022 1:42 am

<r>Bought this a start of lockdown as a project to get me back on the road after knee replacement never planned to restore just wanted a good usable bike. It was suffering from the usual problems but the frame is solid with only a few patches of surface rust which I have been treating and spraying. Still a few patches to do on front forks and swinging arm . New parts fitted include : Main stand+pin and spring, headlight and rim, new rear rim and spokes, Fuel sender, Mirrors,Battery, uprated shocks, new exhaust and a pair of new Avon tyres along with various screws nuts pipes badges etc.<br/>
Engine had severe fin rot but the bottom end was fine, so a new barrel and piston (50mm 97cc) with astrea studs following the mini motor man advice + a new c70 spec roller head are fitted and re jetted to suit along with new clutch plates and springs. Now runs a treat and rides great. Problem is after my second knee replacement my hips are now waiting for the surgeon and sittting on the bike I cannot put my feet on the pegs anymore (old age is a b*tard) and have changed to a feet forward bike so it's got to go to make room.<br/>MOT expires 10 October. mileage reads 19840 but it has had second hand speedo fitted so estimate mileage is approx twice that.

Hi,
Regarding the rust have you inspected the rear mudguard with the wheel off to see if the inner skin is solid. I am interested if that area is solid as I have already had to deal with rust on the mudguard on my present bike. As I live in York ideally photographs of the topside and the underneath of the rear mudguard would help my decision to buy. Will send a PM if all is ok

I think I made it sound worse than it is. Yes I had the tank out to replace ignition coil and rear wheel out to rebuild with new rim and spokes so had a very good look at that area inside and out and there was some very minor rust on the surface with no pitting or holes which I treated with rust converter and some stone chip. I will add some photo's later when I get the chance but disabled daughter is home tomorrow so it may have to wait till the weekend.

Not sure why but this bike was G “reg and the DVLA site showed it registered in 1990. Maybe it was like my Jaguar XJS which was registered in 1986 but the vin number showed it was built in 1983.

:P Hi Tewy,
so you are the proud owner of another potential fine beast? 😀😀
You were querying the 'G' on the number plate?
Well I think I'm right in saying that August 1989 to the end of July 1990 is within the 'G' plate registration window. Then from August 1990 the 'H' prefix would be on the plate. If your newly acquired Cub was registered January to July 1990 then it would be on a 'G'.
Is this what you were meaning or have I got the 'wrong end of the stick' ?
Regarding your Jag. When new, it was probably left unregistered in a dealership showroom for three years before being registered? Years ago dealers didn't like to register cars before they were sold. Sometimes they would register them and not sell them that year and then have a problem with the price. The new buyer wanted the new reg letter to show off. They didn't want to pay new car prices with last years 'old' letter!
Anyway good luck with your new Cub.

Cheers Andy.

Hi,
I have not bought this bike. I did look at the MOT history and found it was not a 1986 model as it was registered 1st May 1990. The mileage is approx double the 19k showing on the bike now as in 1012 it was showing 34k miles. I did make an offer for the bike but it was declined.
