Barn-Find '81 C90 for sale/swap***SOLD***

Yes, the mythical barn-find does exist! Well, it wasn't actually in a barn, but you know what I mean.

I have a C90 in blue. Complete and original. Believed last run in '81. The tax disk on it says 81. It is what I think is called the 'big-case' 'points-in-head' model, made between '79-'83.

I'll sell it for the £100 it owes me. Or swap for a good Honda 90cc motor to put in my '93 Dax ST70. (Genuine Honda, not a clone.)

I want to sell it to someone who wants to restore it, or use the parts to help restore another. I will not sell this to some muppet to use as a field bike. And I don't want to see it appearing in bits on eBay next week. It is a genuine original bike, it deserves better.

On the downside, it has no paperwork. More annoyingly it has no number plate. I have no reason to doubt the previous owner, whose address I can give you. But it means it needs re-registering. The frame and engine numbers are clearly legible, un-molested.

The guy I got it from had started to fiddle with it, couldn't get the engine to turn over, and gave up, realising it was beyond his abilities. Story is this guy's father bought it new, ran it a couple years, and parked it up under a sheet. Speedo shows 1,500 miles. From the condition of everything, that mileage seems genuine.

Engine was seized when I got it due to a sticky component in the clutch. The first thing I did was lift the head to check everything before I tried turning it over. It is all clean and lovely in there. Then I pulled the clutch cover and found the stuck clutch. So, it had not been turned over before I'd been in and inspected and oiled up the bore, checked the cam turned freely, the camchain was fine, etc...

It runs very nicely and everything works as it should. The bodywork and frame is sound, there are no rust holes, but there is light surface rust on the underside on most bodywork. Most chrome is pitted. And some fixings will need some finesse. For example, I had to drill the head off one of the bolts holding the ignition switch (the switch connections needed cleaned to get it going). I tried to remove a rear lens to check the bulb, and the wee screwhead turned to dust. I haven't forced the screws holding the headlamp, they are stuck, they may come out with persuasion, I stopped before I buggered them.

The rear indicators and the headlight dip beam don't work - I suspect the PO had tried 12V on it to get it going and blown the bulbs. All other electrics work. Brakes work. Suspension works. Gearbox works. It runs lovely round my garden.

I can deliver in Central Scotland, further afield by arrangement for diesel money.

And before you ask, no, I have no photos. But I'm supposed to be getting a new camera-phone tomorrow, so I guess I could post photos for those of you who don't know what a light blue C90 looks like :)

Hello and welcome! I reckon the bike is a gift at that price, I just wish I was closer, as I would have loved it. I'm sure you won't have it long. why not do it up and use it? Cheers, Newt.

I was tempted to do it up myself. Or just get it reliable, MOT-ed and run it as a rat-bike.

But, it does need quite a bit of fettling to free off seized screws and the like. It needs 2 tyres, an exhaust, re-registering. It is a worthwhile project for someone, just not for me. Too many toys, not enough time......

Ah! so, you've thought about it at least!.... Not a very convincing argument there though! ;) Could it be that you might fall in love with the little beastie, spend more time on it than your 'proper' bike, as I do? Cubs are like Golf, and Heroin. Don't try it, you might like it! :D :D :D

Golf, no, I tried it, I just didn't get it. Golf is a good walk spoiled, as someone once said. As for the heroin, I'll take your word for it ;)

I really do just have too many projects. 6 other bikes in various states of running / repair / renovation, and I know this C90 will sit gathering dust for ages till I get round to it. I also have in the back of my mind that I want to semi-retire soon to sunnier climes - so I am trying to reduce, rather than add to, my toy collection.

Hi Bicyclebob,

>2 questions: is it complete incl. legshields
Completely complete - including undamaged legshields. Uncracked original sidepanels. Both parts of the chainguard still line up together nicely. From memory, I don't think the seat cover even has any rips.

(ISTR the Honda (?) badge on the front of the left part of the legshield may be missing.)

>and what sort of condition is the frame in, aft of the rear shock mounts?
Sound.

I'm in Newbridge, out past the airport. Phone 0131 335 3403

Sold.

Gone to an excellent home, exactly the kind of guy I hoped would take it.
