1978 Red C90 for sale
I bought this bike back in November. It's a low-mile, tidy enough bike with no rot. After I got it home I discovered it had a leaky engine and some running problems, so after much fruitless fiddling about I decided to entirely rebuild the motor. It's had the following:
Re-bored cylinder original cylinder +.25mm
Re-lapped the valves
New piston & rings
New clutch
New timing chain
New gasket & oil seals
New aftermarket carb with inline filter and inline reserve tap
New spark plug & lead
New coil
New points
New battery
Needless to say it started on the first kick and ran brilliantly. I rode it 20-30 miles before I managed to bend the exhaust valve by shifting down instead of up at 30mph. I replaced the bent valve and the bike now runs like new again.
In addition to the engine, the bike has had a new exhaust and a new speedo cable. The rest of the bike is in good condition for 33 years old. It's had some paint in the past and it's not the best job, but it doesn't look bad. There is a crack on the legshields and the ignition switch is not fixed to the frame (although it is held in place well by the legshields). There are two sets of keys, and I still have the key for the helmet and steering locks. The chrome on the wheel rims and indicators etc is pitted as you'd, but the exhaust is brand new and looks great. The common problem area Inside the rear wheel-arch is free of rust.
It's not a perfect bike, but it does go excellently and looks smart. The induction noise from the OORacing intake filter is quite immense and it's fun to ride. I have some spare parts including a new rear light, the original carb and a Haynes manual. It's taxed till July and MOT'd till the middle of August.
I'm selling because I have another Cub and after all this, I'm not sure why I bought it. I'm not really into it like the other one.
Some pictures:
I paid £600 for it, the engine rebuild and other parts cost me somewhere around £250. I'm looking for £700.

Hi Jamlip,
Have the new filter and carb affected the performance or economy at all? I watched your video and it sounds sweet.
I'm thinking of buying a C90 for the commute to work to save on petrol costs. I do about 12 miles a day. How do C90s cope in the winter generally? Would I be better off looking at a 12V C90 if I'm going to be using it over winter WRT to the lights? Apologies if these questions belong somewhere else
Looks like you've done a great job on that one
Cheers,

Hi and welcome aboard c90club!
My 12volter (1990) seems ok in the winter.
A little commute of 800 miles each way....

Thanks Newtsalad.
That snow joke
That's pretty impressive though. So would you recommend a 12V over a 6V? Any benefit other than better lighting?
Cheers,
Organoman.

Yeah! Faster, no points to mess with, (They're CDi) parts are easier to obtain. The 12v's can be held at full throttle from John O Groats to Lands End in a day without a problem, (1st hand experience) I'm led to believe the 6 volters will seize if treated like this. (No experience)
Downside is, the 12 volters don't look so cool! By 12 volters I mean the square headlamp models, as there were in fact round headlight 12v models for a time.

Yeah, I've just been reading about your "little" trip. Sounded pretty mental, but goes to show what these beasts are capable of.

Was that the JoGLE trip? There's a mistake in that, I ought to correct it. I claimed to have held it flat out for 300 miles, it was in fact 400 miles, non stop, full throttle all the way. I had the throttle rigged so I didn't have to hold it, it stayed full on.

Re: 1978 Red C90 for sale
The reason I bought this bike was because I had recently returned from a trip across the US on a C70 of similar age. Throttle pinned wide-f*****g-open for 2 1/2 weeks, across the midwest, over the Rockies, across Death Valley all the way to California and it just worked. They don't seize. Great bikes.Newtsalad wrote:Yeah! Faster, no points to mess with, (They're CDi) parts are easier to obtain. I'm not sure if I should even be selling this. I just ordered a red tank, solo seat and rack from a US-model CT90 to fit to it. Should look neat.
