Reproduction legshields.

Hello All,
I'm considering purchasing new reproduction legshields for my 1977 6V C50 restoration. Do they fit well or is it a bad idea? My original legshields are in reasonably good condition, but have some age related scuffs.
I would appreciate your recommendations, should I stick with the original ones or fit reproduction legshields?.

IMHO repro legshields have to be persuaded to fit properly and they are usually too white and brittle.
As with all aftermarket stuff there are some quite good replicas out there, I picked up a set of C90ZZ shields that were both flexible and off white. These were marked up as CM90 by the vendors OOH Thailand.
One of the problems with eBay listings, the vendors take a punt at what they think stuff will fit.
David Silver list shields for a 1977 C50 but are out of stock at the moment, hopefully not too long a wait.
Depends on how far you're taking your restoration really. If it was me I'd clean up my originals and store them, fit a set of aftermarkets if the bike will be used.

Just bought one for a restoration off eBay and the seller was louisedolla and cost just over £25 and it fitted really well

That's brilliant I'll wait until Dave Silver has them back in stock, and I agree that storing the original shields makes sense, I'd hate to wreck them as I will use the bike once finished.

I have what appears to be a very cheap set of aftermarket legshields on my '92 electric start C90.
They are very bright white, and obviously modified for the starter motor by the Cub's previous owner, I suspect using a breadknife.
Even though mine's a more modern Cub with, in theory, many more spares available used, I've never turned up a decent set of original e/s legshields in 8 years + of ownership.
Meanwhile, I've gotten very used to the bright white, so it'll probably stay as it is, anyway.

I'll clarify, "turning up," as finding any decent ones for sale used at any of the many bike jumble meets I've been to, not brand new at well over a ton.
I have also "turned up, " sets at Ardingly and Kempton that looked as though they'd been fished out of a canal after 2 decades, also helping define the term, "decent."
My ideal encounter is to find some 30 year old ones that have been kept in a dry shed for 25 years, for £60 or preferably less.

Tends to lean towards buying New, not parts but whole bike if originality is one’s guide.
