Hi Guys, I’ve Been thinking (dangerous habit!) about fuel contents of the ST70 - barely 1/2 gallon, prob enough to get one a sore arse in miles covered but barely any reserve to speak of.... for extra fuel capacity I’m thinking of carrying my Trangia 1Ltr flask that is specially made and suitable for alcohol, kerosene & Petrol, it’s pourer is unique but especially suitable for pouring fuel without it going everywhere and damaging paintwork etc.
What do others use? Or do you just limit mileage?
I have a carrier frame on order - on which I may mount a Givi box in which I’ll carry the sealed Trangia flask (except in hot sunshine), I’ve seen a new metal fuel tank on eBay but it looks too large to fit the ST 70 frame, has anyone fitted same and how much does it hold? Any problems?

The Shop manuals all relate to the ST engines - but nowhere can I find any manual relating to the ST Frame or Chassis, eg disposition of parts etc. So it must be just a piece of bent metal junk? Shame.

One problem comes to light, the bike is so small and light that parked anywhere it would be too easy for some light fingered scum to haul away - even with a lock put on it, they’d take the lot, lock and all. Any ideas appreciated.

For a extra tank i made a bracket and fitted a aux tank from a CT90/110.
Holds more than the stock ST70 tank. Not cheap or easy to come by now.

Another mod was to use the oil tank from a AP50 moped.

Is the log book for the bike Frame numbers match, and was 1979 the year it was imported ?
early frame number coulb be ST70-12 - - - and 1979 would be nearer ST70-6 --
Hi all, Wightegi, The year of declared manufacture is 1979 although the year of DVLA Registration was 1983, the Vin is 6123477 with eng. no. 6123640 from the logbook, it has a mileage of 6963 but has a Km/h speedo which I’m planning to change to an mph one when it arrives, I need a few decals that will arrive shortly too. It appears that the previous but one owner carried out a complete ‘nut & bolt’ re-build including the frame, seat, etc. it’s really good and was quite ‘by luck’ that I got it as a substitute for my Sunbeam S8 which I sold a few weeks ago. I’ve got to re-paint the headlamp as it looks like a replacement but that will be done when I fit the new speedo in due course. The battery is a SLA 6v 2amp job having a Maplin marking which I’ve taken off to bench charge on my multi voltage flight charger.
Then, given good weather a road run to check out the motor is ok.

Hi Jim ,did someone say that a 79 would have a VIN starting 6  For security a chain through the frame and round something it can not be lifted off like a lamp post :o Trackers are good but they just stick the bike in the back of a van for a week to see if anyone comes along.
