Members of the forum may be interested to hear about Phil York.

In 1974 Phil set a speed record of 96.618 MPH on the Bonneville salt flats. He was riding a Honda Z50 with a 100cc motor, using 92% nitromethane fuel. The seat had a tasteful leopard skin cover, and from the pictures the wheels may have been 10 or even 12".

I read about this at the time, and it may have influenced my decision to insert a pushrod 90 into my Z50 (and lower the handlebars) in 1977. I rode it on the road in this form for about 10 years
The Z50 is still in my shed, bearing an impressive amount of dust (think "barn find"). It's on my short list for re-comissioning

Back to Phil. In 2009 someone went to a lot of trouble (using a much bigger motor), and broke Phil's record. They got up to ...... 97.45 MPH.

Here's Phil York.

None necessary.

Read and noted, though. 8-)
