you mean like a CB500? nice bikes. a lot of later ones have been abused though as bike test bikes and courier bikes. or you meaning like a CX500? again nice bikes, but a lot have been abused as courier hacks. like buying any old bike, service history, low miles and common sense. if it looks and sounds rough, then walk away, theres plenty around and always a better one out there at a good price. the CX especially is a good looking bike when well looked after. and can comfortably eat miles. good classic "small" tourer.

The older 1970's CB500T (if it's one of those) is a corker of a bike, did have one for a while....it's pretty much the old DOHC CB450 black bomber with all the nasties ironed out of the engine.... gorgeous amount of torquey grunt, all the fun of an old school Triumph or BSA but with Honda reliability and oil retention.... Beware though, spares availability and prices, make sure it's a good 'un

how long is a piece of string? you never specified which of the 500 twins you was looking at, what age etc. honda have made 500 twins from the 60s till present.

If it's one of those STAY AWAY, stay well away. My mates dad had one from new and my ex-stepdad had had two of them. They both reported the same common problems over and over again. One of Hondas' rogue models that was never any good when new so with old parts and age I'd stay well clear.
Clutch would randomly seize, starter would engage with engine running and burn out, for some reason when hot on idle they'd pump all the sump contents out the breather pipe, had an anti back fire thing that shut the carb down on high vacumn that would mess about, gear box would jam and to top it all off the thing aint light so when you have to push it home with a binding front break with seized calipper pivot pins you will work up a sweat.

I've got one like this ⬇ It's a brilliant bike. Stunning in so many ways. Fast, handles well, very forgiving, comfy etc etc. They used to race them I think and at one time it was the couriers favourite bike, a real workhorse with Honda reliability.

They really are. I have one complaint. It'll pull your arms off if naked. Damn thing pulls like a bastard. That bikes got way more than I'll ever need.

And if you ride from Skegness to Fort William with only quick fuel stops you will have a feckin sore ass, I can still feel it now. Still distracts from the flies.
