yep caustic soda, and as wight says, evil stuff, but does a good job. take the baffles out though and do em by hand. or if you are planning on a rechrome job... then burn the crud out, ya need a set of oxy acetylene torches, and you need to get the oil to start burning at one end of the pipe, and then it moves up the silencer like a burning ring.. you also need to make sure it gets plenty oxygen in there to help it keep burning, its a bit scary but it gets all the old oil and carbon out. and theres a fine line between decoking and melting the exhaust, and of course the pipe will need replating after, but great way to sort out rare pipes that are hard to come by and getting them good as new. i had to do this on my T10 triumph as the pipes are unobtainable.
Prob safer to stick to caustic soda, but thick rubber gloves, safety glasses, mask and some kinda apron for splashes! stuff is nasty nasty nasty. you will need a rubber bung to block one end the pipe. and leave the mix in there a couple days at least. needs to be done to quite a high concentration.

breakers yard or a yam dealer, or try this lot.. http://yambits.co.uk/
my bike don't have the standard shocks on rear it has a pair of hagons which will be getting a rebuild before refitting as they are lovely shocks.
