Very nice the under slung starter motor is just like my lifan 110 so that would be a straight swap .With the number of cars that come in from Japan would it be posible to put a couple of these on as well ?

I'd be ditching the 50 too .. Part of the attraction is the ability to fit any Cub-based engine in there!

That one at the bottom with the oil cooler is a Dax-wheeled, 140cc job! ;)
See cutaway drawings & frame pic further up for original spec.

Ah, that's me not paying attention again  I just saw the oil cooler and assumed it was there because the engine was pretty much enclosed under the plastic.

There's so many interesting machines that we never got in this country - it's not fair!

Sorry for massive thread resurrection, but when I was looking for info on the Giorcub, this thread came up. I just bought one of these (01) and am in the process of restoring and modifying one so I wanted to add what I've come to find out in case one does import one or if you're like me and want to find info but can't.

Firstly, the left case of the motor has several extra bolt holes to accommodate the underslung starter so it's not a "normal" Cub engine exactly. i.e. a C90 motor casing wouldn't work because the starter mount does not line up.

Secondly, the primary clutch motor? (the clutch pack on the crankshaft) is the biggest you can go in terms of stock fitment. The frame itself is only just wide enough to fit it in, so something like a centrifugal clutch motor wouldn't work. Manual clutch might work, not sure.

Thirdly, the front cowling is quite wide to allow a decent airflow to the motor and there are also black grilles in the center to allow to more airflow too. Mine's never had a problem with in town or "high speed" overheating even in 35C weather so airflow seems to not be an issue.

Fourthly, the intake, carb, drivetrain is all Chaly based.

Fifth, a cool little thing is that the engine girdle has four rubber mounts to secure it to the frame instead of being directly bolted on. It's noticeable smoother than the cub.

Okay, just to add, sorry for the thread revival.

Just finished the rebuild so I wanted to share because I am that lonely... No one knows what a Giorcub is here. :(

Next to a real Piaggio

Hard to see, but the foot shifter is there

Btw, the "SPEED" indicator is for when you go over 30kph which is a requirement for all 50cc Japanese market bikes. I disconnected mine as it's bloody irritating.

The "goods". Sorry it's not so clean, it's extremely hard to get parts for so a lot of the original ones went back on.

I really like that - it would be nice to have an enclosed chain though.

How much to post it to me. ;) I could have a lot of fun with that when the scooter boys come over in August, 5000 of the 2 stroke things breaking down all over the place.
