Hey pjam and boo...luvverly bit of vintage there in the pic! The 'modern' CD200 Benly shares a few claims to fame with the cub, fully enclosed chain, boringly reliable, rots like buggery if you don't look after it....changed from points to CDI as well as 6V to 12V 'around' 1982 'til the demise in 1985. 6V models are known as CD200TA, and the 12V are CD200TB. TB model got a larger headlight, and doesn't have the little chrome bits at the front of the sidepanels. Also the TB has the neutral light/highbeam/winker lights housed in a 'fake rev counter', earlier ones have a little bar of panel lights instead....would only recommend the 12V model, once owned the 6V sister CM200 custom, and the electrics were just pants/bordering on dangerous Post '82 ones tend to have been better looked after, as they never got to wear L plates when the law changed...handy tipPjam wrote:Now that's a front drum I've always wanted one too.... the 'motorway Cub' someone called it ....... or is that just a Cub

Thanks for the info Cruncher I did a while back fancy a CD175 but the Benly seems a bit more sensible I guess.. Is there a Benly forum.co.uk? I'd help start one and I'd be about as knowledgeable as I am around here

Maybe have to see about doing a Benly club.....when i have got some more of that rare commodity called free time!!Pjam wrote:Thanks for the info Cruncher I did a while back fancy a CD175 but the Benly seems a bit more sensible I guess.. The humble little CD200 IS a perfect stablemate for the cubs though, and a satisfying ride Love the CD175's too, always had a soft spot for them......
If you notice in my list there is a CD175 listed, is BNW16J...it is currently in a ber-zillion pieces and is vastly over budget. Doesn't help when i've decided rather than just a resto, it is going to be a 'special'....CB200 front end, already polished/chromed, CB175 TLS front drum to be laced into one of the pair of DID alloy rims i've got, engine has been vapoured, converted to 5 speed, 12V, twin carb using a CB175 donor motor....rear fender from CB200 freshly chromed, more NOS bits probably than David Silver has got for CB/CD/175/200's put together....and i daren't add up what it's cost so far No doubt it will be a lovely bike when i get it finished....or should that be IF? And i haven't even decided what colour it's going to be yet Maybe it'll get as far as project threads this coming winter

That sounds amazing Cruncher. I'm in love already!cruncherkid wrote:CB200 front end, already polished/chromed, CB175 TLS front drum to be laced into one of the pair of DID alloy rims i've got, engine has been vapoured, converted to 5 speed, 12V, twin carb using a CB175 donor motor....rear fender from CB200 freshly chromed, more NOS bits probably than David Silver has got for CB/CD/175/200's put together..
Talking of CD200 memories, when I was a teenager our local canal lock-keeper used a maroon one as his work machine, to look after about 7 miles of canal, trekking up and down the towpath. I remember him using it to drag logs around and all sorts! Always impressed me with its reliability despite total neglect!
Some hot close-up TLS leading link porn Pjam... You can see the nipples and everything..Pjam wrote:Now that's a front drum
Re: Benly/Cub similarities, The 'non-sports' version of the CB92, the C92 Benly is even more Cub-like with its mudguard and handlebar styling just like the C100.
And I've got to include this pic cause it's from the family album.. My uncle Jim on his in the early '60s. I'm not sure what model it is exactly and unfortunately he's no longer around to ask.
Oh, and doesn't Benly mean 'convenience'?
