Suzuki Burgman 400

Post by Scootyman » Mon Jan 24, 2022 7:15 pm

Hello all,
Hope everyone is keeping well in these testing times.
So, today I picked up my first scooter purchase of the year. It was offered to me by a work colleague and I thought it might be perfect for me. When I had the Honda S wing125, I used to think that if it had another 5-10hp and a bit more torque it would have been an ideal long term scooter. Given that thought, I had a feeling the Burgman 400 might realise those thoughts into reality.

I paid £1850.00 for this one. It’s a 2012 non ABS model with just 10250 miles from new. It has a full dealer service history and the previous owner just paid a shade under £300 on the brakes to get it through the MOT. Apart from the odd mark here and there, it’s in very nice condition. It also came with a Kappa Monokey 49 litre topbox fitted, a very nice little bonus given the price I paid.
So I rode it home and so far I’m blown away by it. It’s heavy for a scooter at just under 200kgs but it doesn’t feel it as the weight is low down. It’s actually quite sporty albeit plush in the handling and ride quality. It seems to waft along at 50-60 effortlessly and I managed a quick blast at motorway speeds without issue. The acceleration isn’t mad like the CBF1000 I have but it’s no slouch either. I managed around 65mpg on the 35 mile ride home so I’m quite happy with it.
The only thing it does need is a heat shield for the exhaust which is missing but I’m thinking I can probably make one from aluminium or do something similar. Maybe eBay will turn one up.

I really need to ‘thin the herd’ in the garage now. One of my Vision 110’s will definitely be going soon as it’s nearly finished and maybe the CBF1000 too.

Excellent choice and good price paid.

Also the benefit of the big boot model (underseat storage was biggest going) I took mine all across France & Spain (including some mild off roading, not recommended) and was my camping special but it was awful crossing muddy/rain soaked fields

Enjoy

I haven’t ridden an SH300. It has always been of interest and probably the closest thing to the perfect urban scooter but it’s the storage that kills it for me. I use the Vision for work with a large topbox and that works well. The Burgman is more for two up touring with my other half. I’m hoping it will replace the CBF1000 that I have sitting in the garage.
We will see
