Yep, sure was Boo, and found it buried here in the CD90Z topic, was at the same Stafford show with spikeyboy on the day back in the early 90's looking at 4,5, and 6 cylinder kwakkers

It'd be trickey to plonk one in a bike frame, but I think the big deltic railway locomotives had utterly huge two stroke boxer cylinders arranged in a triangle...! :o

That was an engineering masterpiece, by using the 6 piston triangle configuration the cylinder head could be done away with and significant savings in weight and size were obtained with large power output. The core work horse of rail freight, turbo fed and scavanged pieces of art.

Marine diesels, monstrous two stroke engines bigger than a house. Not practical for the bike though, techno porn if you have an engine fetish.

Odd really but two stroke diesels are everywhere when massive amounts of engine power are needed, some very big plant equipment has two stroke diesels. Several busses across the pond had them fitted too.

I dont know the largest 2 stroke bike engine but here is the worlds largest 2 stroke engine. there is only one problem. it wont fit in a cub. why not have a quick read about it

The Wartsila-Sulzer RTA96-C turbocharged two-stroke diesel ship engine is the most powerful and most efficient prime-mover in the world today. The Aioi Works of Japan’s Diesel United, Ltd built the first engines and is where some of these pictures were taken.
It is available in 6 through 14 cylinder versions, all are inline engines. These engines were designed primarily for very large container ships. Ship owners like a single engine/single propeller design and the new generation of larger container ships needed a bigger engine to propel them. The cylinder bore is just under 38″ and the stroke is just over 98″.
The engine weighs in at 2,300 tons and is capable of delivering 109,000 horsepower.

wow, thats astonashing, that 2strokes wouldbe used today, rather than diesels. just goes to show you, 2 strokers, are not as dirty as some would have you believe.

I don't like 2-strokes, but my cousin had one of those some years back and as Newt says they make the most amazing noise 8-) Looks fab too!

a 2 stroke diesel operates totally different to a 2 stroke petrol engine. it also has a cam and valves but they have to be supercharged

I love the Commer 'knocker' 3 cylinder opposed piston 2 stroke diesel lorry engines used until the 1970s.. (Official name Rootes TS3) Always remember the amazing sound of them as a kid.
