Re: Largest 2 stroke?
those 2 last pics look fantastic,
i think the reason they called the kawi,s widowmakers was because of the handling , the rear springs only damped one way , that didn,t help and the frames were a bit flimsy , the tyers they came with were crap , they riders often fitted with a front damper to reduce tank slappers too
a lot of bikes at that time were rubbish at handling, the suzi 500 2 stroke for one, also some later bikes were bad , some 4 strokers used to ingest ice from the carbs in cold weather, causing the engine to lock up solid they now have carb- heaters inbuilt, but it took loads of accidents some fatal before something was done as usual

Re: Largest 2 stroke?
thats a buell , ive seen them too
my last big bike was a kawi vn 1500 a v-twin,an american import, not the best looking bike in the world ,but i owned it for 5 years or so, bloody thing weighed 5 cwt and the brakes were crap, plenty of grunt tho, even if it handled like a tractor
after i had it for about 3 months the big end went ,i should have known something was up after i bought it, as the oil was like tar and the air filters were full of black sticky deposit), also the handlebars were loose as he packed it into a container to ship it also, the speedo bezel had been prized off , i reckon the mileometer had been clocked
the theiving dealer didn,t want to know anyway, so i took the engine out, you have to take the frame apart to do this, i got the journal machined and a few new bits too,pump/cam chain ect
cost me about £600- but it was fine after that
its strange but one side of the b/e journal was perfect yet tother side was knackered, luckily when i heard the ominouse sound of the b/e knocking i gently coaxed it home then eventually stripped it
the piston had just touched the head but no damage was done!--well lucky--i sold it to a guy , he sold it too , apparently its still going strong

Re: Largest 2 stroke?
Hi ayjay, can't remember his name, but he's been to stafford before, and been discussed on here!....amazing engineer, guess he just kept adding more and more webs to make the crankshaft longer One of his that sticks in my mind is a 6V C90 V Twin looking like a hesketh with the cylinder angles...ayjay wrote:i went to a bike show once, there was a kawi with 6 cylinders -2x triple engines joined

Re: Largest 2 stroke?
Would that V twin chap be Alan Millyard? I remember it in an '80s magazine article. I wouldn't have remembered the name but I'd just read it not an hour ago on the Chalopy blog!
