Honda SH300 anyone ?

Post by Mattt » Tue Mar 30, 2021 8:04 pm

Been looking for a Innova for a friend, hes sorted now ,but stumbled accross a SH300.
Read tbe reviews ,which were all good ,but has anyone had one? Theres 2 versions ,is the earlier model a carbed model?

One thing i havent found out is sheer size, are they a maxi sccot size ? The extra power sounds promising for my weekly commute but the sheer traffic volume and narrow filtering ,lane splitting really suit the Cub when you need something with a tight turning circle ,no weight and perfect balance ,bicycle style !
Rode my Dads CB500X a couple of times ,it took longer !

As Dave said , because they are fast and easy to nip in and out of traffic ,quite a few members have them .

Diddly (Chris) had both SH300 and Innova last time I saw him and liked both.

I’ve got one, wasn’t looking for one but got offered a cracking deal and just decided to go for it. I’m really enjoying it.
I’ve only done 1000 miles in the last couple of months but so far I’m really enjoying it. I use it for when I’m working oncall at Bristol Heart institute and it’s perfect for rapid getaways mixed with intricate weaving.
Seat is comfy enough for 250 mile journeys, tank range is limited to needing to fill up at about 130 miles. Lights are good, riding position is fun. It needs a small screen as at 80mph you really feel it on your chest. The big screen is fantastic for wind protection but it is maa-hoo-sive.

Had one in 2009 (I think it was) used for the daily commute Chelmsford to East London. Have made a few comments in here in the past.

Covered 20K in a year (it was shared with other toys)

Some had issues with cutting out (& was a recall?) mine did it a couple of times in slow filtering traffic on M25 during summer.

If you have large feet the floorboards are quite short in length.
Awful in the snow, to much torque to back wheel arse end slides out

Weight ratio low down so balance excellent, engine good but derived from Honda CRF range so only 279cc and bit agricultural but does the job.

Not as nimble as your 90 but way more chuckable than a silverwing or burgman.

Pillion seat vespa-ish in the pillion is nearly same height as rider so tour friendly.

With OEM honda top box lots of carrying capacity but overload it and noticeable in the handling.

Never fitted a screen but would have been a worthwhile investment I believe.

Tucano muffs worked so well probably didnt need the heated grips.

Service intervals short compared to new Honda. Tyre wear good especially the front. Wading depth not the best (A13 Ferry Lane interchange)
Only issue with mine was wear on rear drive bearing IIRC

Would I have another YES i look regularly but all tend to be high mileage, (and silly money) new ones are keyless (which i dont like) and the new 350cc is the big push by Honda so haven't checked how it adds to weight/balance.

Just remembered rear springs corroded so dealer (now Chelmsford City) said wait till good weather then put a claim in.
I did as requested and he then said its been bad weather (snow/salted roads) & mileage was high (didn't buy from them again)

On size question consider it a pumped SH125

Agree with Godspeed tank small but not as bad as the MT03 (660cc version) I also rode at the time but that was a fun machine
