Wave 97cc carb, drum

Post by Belly » Thu Mar 25, 2021 9:24 am

Hi all , have found a wave 97 cc carb with drum on front, looks like it was imported in 2017. It’s on a q plate. Any pointers/issues. I am thinking of buying it. Looks very clean. :D

It is a Honda . I know of a 110 wave 62 plate for £1000. the speedo is in MPH so not a grey import . check how much the insurance is for a Q plate , if it is cheap to buy then go ahead .

Member AE86 would have the complete run down on these, but other members may have information.

As wightegi says iit is a bona fide Honda. If genuine Honda spares aren't available domestically (like plastics) PRC/Taiwanese clone stuff may fit with adaptation.

I bought one that had been imported from Thailand but not registered. No wonder it’s got a Q plate. It was a massive pain to register without a NOVA. They are four speed and imho build quality much better than the newer Honda’s. Mine had done 50+ thousand Km’s and despite that ran beautifully. I paid a pittance and sold it way too cheap. If it starts and runs well and isn’t too expensive buy it. Parts interchangeability the only issue.

Cheers all, might try and get the q plate off and get age related, think Honda might be able to do an age cert from the frame number. How do I work out what year it is from the frame number.

They started making the Wave 100 in 1995 , there may be a label on the wiring loom with a date on to give you an idea of its age , The Honda owners Club may be able to help with a dating certificate but it will cost , if you can buy the bike for very little and get it insured on a Q just run it , like I said a 62 plate 110 injection one is for sale at £1000,so £500 would be about all I would pay for a grey import.
