'98 cb250 nighthawk

Post by ally » Sat Sep 19, 2020 9:45 pm

just come back from 'darn 'sarf where I collected a cb250 as a probable replacement for my 2006 cg125

when I visit my folks in surry (from lincoln) quite happy on the c90 but hate stopping so wanted something with better tank range

the return journey was a slow one, around 55mph but got killed with hills and headwinds but the biggest problem is the amount of engine vibration, got tingling bits in pretty short order

I've not looked at anything yet as I'm recovering from the journey (I have mobility issues which takes me some time to get over), I've no service history so am expecting valve clearances and the like but wondered if anybody has history with this model and can provide some pointers

it's the benley type engine, twin cylinder but single carb, it starts well and ride pretty smooth, no flat spots or similar, but is geared way too tall so 30mph in 5th no problem

I had to play around with the gearing with the CG to get in playing well so that's on the list

I'll have a walk round tomorrow and check for loose engine mounts and the like and pull the plugs to see if I can learn anything there

:)

I had a 2000 CB250 (233cc), it was not what I expected having had a CD200 Benly before it. It did vibrate a fair bit, was slower than the Benly. It was about the same performance as a good CG125, sold it to Steve Watkin (RIP) and he come to the same conclusion IIRC.

thanks dave

hoping the plus 1 front sprocket will bring the revs down sufficiently for a lower vibe 60mph!
