Re: 1980s CB400N
I'd say no. They had the usual Honda blind spot with cam chain tensioner, but it wasn't that bad and is eminently fixable if it goes wrong. Most things on them are within the capabilities of a home mechanic. Had one in my youth and it was totally reliable over 40,000 miles (not all of them mine, it was 2nd hand). A good old basic bike and the Euro styling has its charm these days. Enjoy it.

I would say no, they may or may not be good bikes but they are plug ugly and best not to be seen on one...however the 1988 cb350s-g is a handsome machine ! ( see for sales). And loads cheaper..

Re: 1980s CB400N
I remember a few round our way both the T and N versions all fitted with 250 engines
All had the same problem the camshafts had ripped up the journals in the cylinder head and no second hand parts about.
lack of regular oil changes i suspect never saw that fault on the 250s though.

I would query if spare engine is the original, or if the spare engine was to replace the original, in which case is it any good ?
