CD175/200 or CB200 and similar.. opinions please.
I recently sold one of my big cruiser bikes. and I keep finding myself looking at Small (well compared to a 1100 and 1400cc) Honda bikes. Im in the market for a CT125 if they ever come here, but in the meantime i got the spare cash, and i want something along the lines of a 125-250cc.. but the sweet spot would be a 175-200 so the CD fits the bill and the CB.. and preferably something MOT and Tax exempt.
Whats everyones experiences of the CD 175 or 200, or even a 250u? and again the CB models of similar capacity (owned a superdream years ago... yeah it wasnt very super) so dont want one of those. a contact is meant to be coming back to me with infor on a 71 CB350 but its needing a restoration and tbh id rather have a tidy but honest runner. just needing maintenance and petrol. which models most reliable, fun to ride? is there anything else i should consider? i want a 4 stroker rather than a 2 stroke, i got my MZ for ring ding ding fun. not got a huge budget 1500.. maybe 1750 tops.

The cd250 u won't be historic licence, cb200..personally never liked them, but cd185/200 benlys good unless you are on the larger size, very small bikes. How about a cb350s-g ? 1988 ish

It's a long time since I had a CD175. 40 years to be precise!
The one thing I do remember is that snapped camchain tensioner bolts were a well known issue.
I found this out by sneaking my cylinder head into the college workshop as an apprentice to drill out the old bolt, and fit a new, larger one with a helicoiled thread.
I was spotted by a lecturer. Instead of bollocking me he took me to the stores where they had a kit already made up for the job. They'd had quite a few with the same issue, belonging to students and college staff.
I did a 500 mile round trip over 2 days on mine after I passed my test. 2-up with my girlfriend (actualy someone else's but that's another story ,) tent and camping gear.

I have a A reg 12v CD200 Benly sitting here. I'm waiting for the logbook to arrive. Non runner. Engine turns.
I've bought a new ignition switch for her.
Also got a CB450 turning up soon. With logbook.
It's a good runner. Chap who bought it started to chop the rear end off to make a cafe racer style.

I recently had a CD200 for a number of years. It was a really nice bike. It also had the comfiest seat known to motorcycling. A mate has one at present.
Mine was a 6v points ignition jobbie. My mates is a 12v cdi version and is definitely quicker than the 6v. My 6v was in fine fettle by the way.
I really fancy a CD250U. From all accounts they are quite a bit quicker than the CD200, with not much drop off in economy.
If you get a CD200/CD250U I don't think you will be disappointed.
