Between 300 and 500 miles I crept up to 3/4 throttle. Between 500 and 1000 miles I was more or less riding it as if it were Run In but only occasionally went up to full throttle for a couple of seconds.
What I'm saying is I didn't molly coddle it. I didn't ride anywhere with the same constant throttle setting but altered the speed all the time and was forever changing gears. I never stayed in top gear very long but would change down, drop my speed and accelerate back up into top again.

They still look gorgeous in a timeless way.
Sadly, I've never owned one ... but not for want of trying!
I had this Classic efi for a day in March 2011 when the local dealership at the time knew I was serious about buying a new one.
I loved it, but sitting down at the dealership desk afterwards and buying one wasn't as simple as I'd imagined.
"Well what did you think?"
"Loved it, I'd like to buy one, please, a black one. I can pay cash now or pay a deposit and the remainder when it's ready."
"That might be a problem. We won't be able to get one until September when the next shipment arrives." (This was in March)
"OK, what other colours can you do?"
"That might be difficult, too. There are bikes at other dealerships but it's whether they will let us have one."
"So, what model or colour can you sell me right now?"
"We can't."
"OK, I'll put a deposit down, keep the Vespa I'm riding around on, and have a black one in September."
"Ah, well we can't actually guarantee that you'll get a black one in September. In fact we can't actually guarantee that you'll get a bike at all."
It was only surpassed in bizarreness as a sales pitch by getting thrown out of a Harley Davidson dealership a few years earlier with 2 mates when we wanted to buy 3 used HDs for cash!
To be fair, the Enfield importer at the time, Watsonian Squire, were having difficulty in coping with the increased popularity of the brand, and they passed RE on to MotoGB the following year.
I went to the Kawasaki dealership with Mrs Capitano and bought a W800.
Sadly, I've never owned one ... but not for want of trying!

It took me 4 months to decide what model i wanted. I went to Holywood Service Station in Dumfries three times, rode a Himalayan..too tall, rode an Interceptor....too fast. Then I went back again to look at the new (then) trials 500. Only colours are red and green ....too bling ! Then quite a while later I rang them and said I wanted a squadron blue classic .... Couldn't get one two weeks later he found one so I told him to put my name on it. No regrets. After riding it home to Durham then back again a couple of days later for first service I knew I had made right choice....just right !

I think the stock has improved over the years in that case. They've got most models, some in multiple colours, in Alcock & Jones in Stafford. Similar in The Potteries motorcycle store. However the one I wanted, the Bullet 500, wasn't stocked because they were no where near as popular according to the salesman there. Has anyone tried the Bullet 500? I know they're the same as the classic mechanically, but with a longer seat and different rear styling. What did you think of the comfort of the longer seat?

The b5 bullet is just the same apart from having an ugly (imo) rear mudguard, they are about £400 cheaper when new.Never ridden an efi bullet so can't really say anything about comfort, depends on your physique i think...

There's a guy in Tasmania who goes by the name of "Iridetas", who has done close to 50 videos on his 2017 Classic 500.
You may have seen some of them. He has done a shed load of alterations to the bike including bar end mirrors, different grips, a tachometer, vibration plate, Powertronic, etc, etc, etc but in my opinion he has ruined the bike.
I can understand why we make certain improvements. We all do it. I've got longer mirror arms to see better and a Goldstar exhaust but what iridetas has done makes me wonder whether he has bought the right bike because all he wants to do is change it all into something different.
I bought mine because of what it is.
Anyway, I contacted him and told him what I thought and he replied saying he'd rather have his bike than mine!
Fair enough.

I have watched a couple of his videos , I did get one of the tachometers he 'tests' used it on my ef I when running in but mainly wanted it for my Gilera 150. My efi...
