Don't use standard unlead always super the ethanol in the standard softens the tank ! to the extent if you take it off it will not go back and the brass inserts where the fairing mount eventually fall out leaving a hole end of tank !

Dave
seen 4 all bikes eventually scrapped !
I'll be trying to avoid taking the tank off should it find its way to chez Capitano.

I generally run everything on the most OTT fuel regardless of whether it's recommended or not. eg Shell V-power petrol and diesel.

It’s not just removing the tank, but the other panels screw into the moulded in threads, just be exceptionally wary when unscrewing the large head fixings in case it’s pulling out the tank thread rather then unscrewing.

If they had only been treated to a dab of copper grease when originally assembled it would have saved me a few headaches and tubes of JB Weld.

Hopefully, the threaded inserts are located on a part of the tank that isn't holding fuel. ie if one of the inserts is removed, petrol doesn't pi** out of the hole does it?

Oh yes it does....well not always but there isn’t much material behind the insert.

Best test of nerve is when you have a seized in screw so you spin it fast enough for the insert soften the plastic enough for it to be pulled free.

My Dad had one. He's a tall, strong guy and found the height hard to get along with. Just be sure the position is for you!

Good point indeed. That's the key thing. Post surgery I've been searching to find bikes with a riding position that's not going to cause me harm.

The Tiger 900 is one of a few I've found that are suitable, which I confirmed today. 8-)

There are always options if the stock tank is carked, I guess. 8-)

I fixed one for a bloke up the road.

Immensely heavy. Stupid plastic fuel tank coupling. Wouldn't want one myself, unless it was free, and then I'd sell it.
