Townmate 80

Post by ruffstuff » Sat Dec 29, 2018 2:30 am

Hi, after lurking for years I finally got a placcy.
I went with the townmate as it came up cheap and I like shaft drive simplicity.
So the drive to get it took me 12 hours thanks to our fantastic motorway network :?

I've no idea how to do pics off a phone.

Anyone any tips on t80s ?

I'd like to add one to the stable, have a v75s and a v90 to sort first

a couple of tips first dont go out if its dark the lights are crap two check the tyre presures weekly for some unknown reason thery loose air even if you fit new tubes ,, and keep the oil topped up , there not fast bikes but will keep up with most cubs on a bimble

Take off the rear light, clean the earth contact at the back if you have a poor brake light. .
Remove the swing arm spindle and swing arm, left hand side engine case, check the ignition pick up for corrosion,
Open up the shaft hub, clean and refill with Castrol grease, its a liquid type.
Grease the splines of the prop both ends, it makes a great difference to the gear change mine would jump out sometimes before I did it.
You can get a Lucas 6 volt gel battery these days for £9 that's a good fit.
hopefully the cam chain adjuster can be moved in the cylinder head.
A few jobs that need doing, to make them better. Happy Days.

Sound advice, I've got oil and ordered the brake bits, job for tmrw.
It was in Bristol, m6/m5 roadworks meant 50 miles in 2nd ☹. Came back through Wales as It was easier.

Looks great!

Never noticed before how much larger the seat is in comparison with the C90.

Try 40 rear and 30 front ,the same as a 90 .
