Using a food grade plastic can is not a good idea on several accounts. Apart from being illegal they are not built to withstand the pressures that can build up inside, reckon that the one on the link would blow up like a football! A sharp eyed H&S conscious fuel station worker could refuse to let you fill it on a forecourt (happened to me when I tried to fill a classic "Pratts" metal can - cue for comedic abuse!)

I'm aware that plenty of people use various small plastic and metal bottles for emergency supplies, sometimes in bicycle type bottle brackets but these usually have small fillers and have to be filled at home, away from prying eyes. DieselDave rescued me with his on my first long rideout during a heavy rainstorm!

I would buy something fit for purpose, might cost a tenner or so extra especially if you plan to store it on its side under the seat.

Too thin & flimsy.

Invest in a Trangia fuel bottle and it will last, also good to have a petrol burning camping stove and it fulfills 2 functions as all bike camping gear should.

You really don't want thin, flimsy fuel containers. My Dad's burned out garage is testament to that!

I have the same fuel friend container as Terry, recommended by our late friend, SteveW.

It was a 2lt, so good for 50 miles plus, they do come in smaller sizes 1lt and 1.5lt, only the 1lt fits under the seat as they are tall and thin.

Hi Guys,
Just a quick bit of feed-back re. fuel container: I tried the 2.5 litre container. It wedged nicely in the under-seat compartment. It didn't like to be flexed though. It was leaky by the time of the first fill-up. I think I'll go for the 2 litre Fuel friend next, the black one, if it'll fit under the seat.
