Nice one - thanks!
Have fond memories of an old colleague who bought one of the last Ascot models in 1987 and commuted into London on it until his retirement. He loved the journey to and fro and planned to keep it forever.

Do you have to do all that work to replace a head gasket?

Re: other bike - VT500
It had been stood for a year or two and when I pulled the motor out I noticed a small hole in the lower rail of the frame and made the mistake of poking it with a screwdriver, then the more I looked, the more I poked, the more I found so seeing as it had to be welded up...
so repaired and powder coated, now giving everything a good scrub before it goes back on, changing a few bits and pieces like the pegs in the process and hopefully back on the road before summer runs out.
