Mates 110cc vision is poor up hills, I thought it might be quicker than the cub.....but heck no,,,,,it's slow...I hear it has the wave lump in it. I'd never expect it to be a world beater, but for the cub to be quicker especially up hill I think is poor......is this normal?

Yes my Cub is faster than the vision uphill. The vision though has possibly a marginally higher top speed and the acceleration is a bit quicker.

Cheers bogger, it was embarrassingly slow........straight back up for sale I believe.

As far as I know its a non-Cub-derivative CVT motor. No relation to the Wave excepting that it is made by Honda.

Richie has ridden on rideouts with us on his Vision 110.

I don't remember it being slower uphill.

If it was, it wasn't that noticeable.

It could well be........it was Italian fella on here who is selling his little Honda mtv ( who also owns a wave mentioned to me it was the wave engine)......bloody terrible up hills....seen quicker 50cc scooters.

If it's a long slight incline and its revs are up its no problem, but if it's a slightly steeper hill and its revs drop your screwed...factor wind into this and your really screwed!

Over the Pennines it was great on the way back, but it held its revs so it wasn't a problem,,,,,,it really surprised me, I was impressed....always fancied one, but we went over to Holmfirth yesterday I was doubled over with laughter as my cub sailed past on several occasions.......can't see there been anything wrong with it as its like new, serviced and rides lovely apart from hills.......Honda has surprised me there.

Correct, it is the next gen version that replaced the GY6. Auto belt driven CVT, separate motor from transmission.

It has to do with the CVT weighting. It's not a "smart" automatic which can kick down when needed, so if you drop below a certain rpm there's no way for the motor to "shift up". The stock spring keeps keeps the bike around 5,000-5,500 rpm at full tilt until the variator maxes out around 45 mph, which then it can spin up to top speed, which is about 70 mph with a new belt and weights.

If there's a lot of hill riding then a heavier spring needs to be installed on the rear clutch so it keeps the engine in a shorter ratio for longer. Installing lighter roller weights will also aid it in spinning up faster.

^^ This from AE86 explains it better than I could. Different weights WILL help.

Like riding a Cub, driving a 2CV or riding a singlespeed bicycle there are techniques to learn in riding a small capacity CVT scooter too. Maintaining momentum is key. On the CVT maintaining revs at the "sweet spot" is also important.

Our 50cc Peugeot Ludix has slightly lighter rollers than stock. Hit a hill correctly and it's not far off keeping up with my Cub. Hit it wrong and you may as well walk.

This is probably why Richie's Vision keeps up on hills. He's been riding small autos for donkeys' years and knows what he's doing with 'em.

That's the answer cap. keep speed up,i used to go up pepper hill on the A,2 Going to school[work] and head wind, just hits it hard, the sh 125,more cc./ more power, keeps speed up,unless its really bad,but now go different way, turn off a.2,ride along country lanes,much/much better, and rejoin at the 50 mph limit.Lots of average speed cameras,so it dosent matter, its only got not a lot of power,so but it does what it does.and it does it good, but that's my view,if you want more power/cc/speed get more cc.
When on my way home, the country lanes in the dark[no lights] now that's much more interesting.

Thanks all for your input on this........always good to know there are answers on here. As a little nimble scoot it's bloody lovely, so smooth and quiet, obviously brill getting in and out of the garage. It's just here in Sheffield it's bloody hilly in places and a lot of the time you ain't going to get a run up to get those high revs you need.
