It would appear it's actually going to be reasonably simple and low cost to modify the rack.

I'll see if I can edit some photos with my idea then upload to an image sharing site.

I'm trying to get that bloody useless Imgur to work.

It's like black magic, you upload the images then they seem to disappear, fcuking useless app

Ok here's a top down view.

Well perhaps not, I'll be able to get the images loaded on the PC later.

Any tips for mobile image hosting that are actually user friendly? :ugeek:

Postimages.org

Create your account and make a gallery to upload to.

Once image is visible hit "share" and copy the "hotlink for forums" option and add that to your post. This makes the image appear on the post without having to click anything. No need to downsize images but I do try to make all mine about 1 MB max as a matter of course coz they upload quicker to Fartbook etc.

It also means you don't have to look at ads and other stuff in the account, you just get the pic(s).

Ok so here's my initial idea, based on about 5 minutes in the shed today.

Well I think I've got it cracked...

Need a vice, a drill, couple of dome headed bolts and nuts and one heavy duty cable tie.

Will upload and post the pics later.

Appears to be very solid and easily removed if needed.

So I removed the grab rail assembly - 2 x 10mm bolts and undo the upper shock mount nuts.

Flattened the 90 degree ends of the rack and then re-bent at 90 degrees (roughly) and also splayed out the legs to fit over the grab rail legs.

Better idea here

Image

Then marked out the location for the holes to be drilled on the grab rail plate

Image

Sourced some roughly 30mm long dome headed bolts which fit in the the lugs - roughly 7mm diameter

Image

Image

Bolted the lugs to the grab rail plate

Should now look like this

Added one industrial sized (heavy duty) cable tie at the top mid point of the grab rail.

So now it looks like this

Underside like so - looks like a startled Space Invader!

My sub £11 top box from XLMoto placed on top of fitted rack (posted link to this deal last year or so)

The rack is actually very solidly mounted. (Famous last words?)

The cable tie isn't really required to stop movement, as the mount points under the plate really provide a very secure fixing but I think it helps eliminate any rotational stresses, as well as avoid potential vibration.

If you're looking for a cheap and and fairly simple solution, to fit a rear rack to a Super Cub, I think this is a very viable option and a good start point.

I may end up doing some fettling once I attach the top box but will advise of any changes that I make.

Also happy to hear of any suggestions others might have to improve the fitment but this allows for quite easy removal and minimal changes to original parts, which are hidden under the saddle, out of sight.
