Re: Innova exhaust
BSA triple? Can't remember what they called 'em.. Badge engineered Triumph Trident sort of things.
Re: Innova exhaust
Triumph was the T150 Trident, the BSA was not quite the same, it had a tilted forward engine...different cylinder angle which changed the handling, so bizarrely not badge engineered! Triumph and bSA hated each other !Boo wrote:BSA triple? Can't remember what they called 'em.. Badge engineered Triumph Trident sort of things.
The engines were all made at the BSA factory. the BSA was known as the Rocket Three. Both machines lost those cool 'raygun' silencers within a year or so. When the Trident was re-vamped into the T160 it got the leaning forward engine

Cheers for the info GB.. Amazing that they made them so different to each other.. 'We've always been rivals so we will continue as such even no we're under the same management'.. Amazing foot-shooting behaviour!guildbass wrote:Triumph was the T150 Trident, the BSA was not quite the same, it had a tilted forward engine...different cylinder angle which changed the handling, so bizarrely not badge engineered! It reminds me of Rover and Triumph under British Leyland, spending vast resources making Triumph's V8 engine 'cause they wouldn't use a Rover one even though they were now the same company!

Yes, the animosity between the two caused industrial action, all sorts of shit. The fabulous Craig Vetter designed Triumph Hurricane was actually a BSA, built with the leaning forward engine and the model number; X75 was a BSA number. I think BSA got pissed off that Triumph were getting all the attention being the 'better' name as regards sales. BSA had far better competition and engineering antecedents with all their single cylinder competition machinery in road race and motocross whereas Triumph were very much the punters choice. The engineering equipment let them down too, allegedly each of the triple's barrels were bored individually which took three times as long . What really killed 'em though was the Kawasaki Z1....

What also helped was the Japanese attention to detail where the British had a ' That'll do ' mentality....look at the 70's guff churned out by BMC/BL...a mouthfull of dry cream crackers was a more pleasant prospect than a Marina
