My new ride....

Post by Cerberus73 » Sat Feb 23, 2013 9:39 pm

well after the fiasco with the Kakasaki i kindly got looked at by bogger and Mick-H, that turned out to be a clocked dud... i went nosing around the tinternets on obscure little site... and came across a rather cryptic ad... 86 Suzuki Intruder VS1400 29k miles, been sat 3yrs due to hubbys illness and subsequent bereavement... so i called the number, bikes sat in South Wales, my cousin lived 15 mins away... hes a power ranger with a R1 but hey knows bikes as well as i do.. so he went for a nose, i asked her what she wanted for it, i was prepared to go to say £1500 as its a old bike but still make good money (one on gumtree up my way... more miles, but a yr younger... 3k ono) and i know it will need tarting up, new seat cover, chromes a bit freckled on exhaust and rims. paints tired... she says id be happy with £600... well i did say look its worth more, but she says lad, you want to put it on road, use it etc, bike shops have offered to buy it to sell on for a fast buck, or to break. and id rather it went where it be used for less cash.

well here it is...

ah glen, im going for this kinda look when im done, it already has wideboy forks and yokes fitted, im gonna get extenders for em to lift it a extra +2-4" on the front, and lower it on back by about 1-2" so that the rake/trail aint to messed up.. flames, well the pic there has the bike in gloss black with some blue on front fender, im going for flat black frame, tank etc, black ceramic coated straight pipes and wrap, and its pearl orange glossy flames on front of tank till about mid way, same on front edge of shortened front fender and some coming from under seat to about 6 inches shy of end of back fenders. im thinking twin headlights on front or the classic big headlamp with smaller spots either side on a lightbar, the original parts are coming with it as well, like the bars and forks etc, so ill flog those on to earn some cash back to buy a couple of steel fenders, and I've other junk to move on to put money into the bike, so i aint dipping to deep in my own pocket, like newt and his guzzi cali, im doing it on a tight budget, and got a bargain bike to start with.

if the VS 600 is anything to go by Cerb, they're a crackin' machine, handle far better than they have any right to 8-) 8-) 8-) ('tis all on the arse end, grip the seat with yer arse cheeks, pick the bike up, sit in the corner where you want it)

,,,let this one go for a grand as it wasn't being used, bought it for our lass, but just wound up pulling it out from beneath it's cover, cleaning it, fettlin' it, and MOT ing it every year,, :(

I imagine the VS600 and the 1400 wouldn't be much diff, just more torque on the big un, top speed wise aint much diff. but id guess the 600 was a smaller bike all over dimensionally, and weight, the 1400 there is near 550lb. not a lightweight by any stretch of the imagination, partly why i wanna bobber it to remove some lard. good to hear someone has had experience of them, they have always been a unknown to me compared to the Honda shadow, or yammy dragster, my sis has a VN800 kwak drifter, its ok but a bit to "soft" and gutless for me.

it was sooooo stable at low speed Cerb, 5 mph armchair ride through the moors were a joy, yet crack the throttle and put your silly 'ead on and it went like stink, and VERY, VERY reliable, it spent most of the 4 years I had it under a cover out on the patio, just came out for a fettle and a clean every year to MOT it, kept it taxed and tested all year round, usually spent 3 or 4 weeks/year riding around on it, going to work ect. just to keep it happy, took off the stupid peaked headlight, made a stainless single post bracket, and mounted twin spots, Hardley foot boards, goodridge hose for clutch and brake,,,it was a good un, but it was going to rot away under that cover eventually,,,,bit like the Buell is doing now :(
