whizz...bang! love 2stroke.....not the devils work, the work of the parts department, when 2 strokes go the best is just before the bang. then start over.

i love all bikes, 2 or 4 stroke, but i tend to stick to singles or twins, maybe a triple if it was at right cash. i love the simplicity. no valves, cam chains etc to stress over. and even when it does need a rebuild its cheap, simple to work on. indeed the MZ is a DKW, and the bantam, etc were a direct copy of the DKW RT125. also Walter Kaadens at MZ gave us the expansion pipe, and the rest is history. i like MZ,s cos like the cub they are a game changer, they took a smelly agricultural engine, low powered and dirty, and made them fly, beating all the big boys at there own game in the 50s and 60s. there one of those bikes you have to have owned at one point in your life, just for completness sakes.

Exactly the opposite. ;) BSA got the design for free as war reparations and mirrored it to put the gears and kickstart on the right.....
Wow, you live and learn! I also had a 125 D1 Bantam, which is why i had noticed the similarities....and i thought that was crap too....

Drop capitano a PM Harry, he may not have seen this thread. IIRC he's got quite a bit of experience with MZ 125s & has done some epic journeys on them.

We had a TS125 before an ETZ 250. The 125 was horrible. It felt strangely un-wieldy, top heavy and lacked stability. It went down braking in the wet and felt like a drunk on a skating rink.
The ETZ 250 on the other hand was brilliant.. Fabulous handling, brembo disc that pulled it up hard and fast, punchy motor and lots of alloy (because it was cheaper than plastic for the East Germans)...Even the side panels were alloy...A properly nice little bike and capable of showing twats on Sport bikes the way home on roundabouts!

I love small two stroke, there plucky lil things shoves two fingers up to the norm and runs around in a cloud of blue smoke, love a busy lil engine with a good gearbox makes every ride fun
