new toy
After the townmate died yesterday I had to get another bike quickly. I have picked up a Honda cm125 on a early y plate. Still got original twin exhausts. Runs sweet. But the cam chain has a rattle as do the tappets. Does anyone know what the clearances are on the valves and how the tensioner works? Thanks.

First of all I had the piston/timing issue which you knew about as I wrote up on forum. Yesterday she lost all power then cut out. Got her started an five minutes later a big cloud of blue smoke followed by a metallic banging noise an just died mate

Hi Bub,
Top cover easily removable from engine with 2 bolts...gives good access to the valve adjusters which should be set at 0.05mm stone cold....put the lid back on before doing the camchain unless you want an oil shampoo!!!!!!
Next...look on the back of the barrel in the middle under the carb and you will see the camchain tensioner secured with a locknut....it will be one of 2 types, try automatic method first.....(automatic)loosen the locknut with the engine running and the rattle should subside, re tighten the locknut...or...(manual)loosen the locknut with the engine running and turn the middle bit of the tensioner inwards/clockwise until the rattle subsides then re tighten the locknut.....job done easy peasy
Be warned, if it needs a new camchain...they are very expensive, and it's a full engine strip to fit it....

Thanks cruncherkid. Not done tappets but did cam chain last night. I used to own a twin carb cb which was a nightmare to get running right. This one is holding on to recap slightly and uneven tickover but as she is single carb should be easy to sort. Do u no if mixture screw is one and a bit turns out? I think bloke I buught it off set it two turns out

My 200 Benly (very similar bike) was always happiest at 1 and a quarter to 1 and a half turns out.....(CD200 engine will fit in your bike btw... )bub2006 wrote:....... Do u no if mixture screw is one and a bit turns out? I think bloke I buught it off set it two turns out....
