From my mate Alex, selling his RT: Anybody fancy a very nice BMW RT before I p/x it? need £3.5k to beat the px which will happen next Saturday 29th February. I cannot be bothered and do not have time to do ebay / gumtree etc so its going next week regardless, so be quick if you want it.
This bike is about as clean as you will find, its a 2005 BMW R1200RT with just 29k miles on it. In the 4 years I have it I have ridden this bike through France and Spain and its a peach,
Years Mot (from BMW main dealer)
Service history (next due in July),
brand new rear tyre, recent front tyre,
front brakes just overhauled with new pistons, seals and pads
recent rear pads
just had new fork seals and front suspension ball joint and front wheel bearings
wheels, forks, engine covers, kickplates and stands just been powder coated, the list goes on.
Bike has full luggage (including 49ltr top box on matching key)
Spec is good with heated grips, electric height adjustable screen, ESA (Electric Suspension damping and rebound) & ABS.
I have also fitted some extra powerpoints, various camera mounts and vents.
Will also come with an extra touring screen and a low seat.
Will add some pics shortly.
If your looking for something like this you will not get better than this hugely capable machine, the RT can commute, tour and even hustle along the twisties. You also wont find a better one than this at this price.

Wouldn't touch another BMW with a barge pole.
Overrated.
Troublesome and Unreliable.
Expensive.
Costly parts.
And have never been on a forum where so many are up their own arses.

BMW's are ace. So I'm sorry, but you are wrong.

Actually not my bike but somebody I ride with who is pedantic about care hence the recommendation.

Personally wouldn't touch a BMW but if I had to own one then it would be the RT

I ride an RT a couple of times a week , it’s highly specced up and a lovely thing to ride ,I don’t get involved with maintenance side of it so can’t comment , but on the ride side of things I would have one .

I'm with Culfy, I also ride 500 miles a month on one (Blood Bike) No problems other than tyres and rear brake pads. Again I don't do the maintenance and we don't get rid of them until they have done 80,000 miles.

If I didn't have my own 1200 GSA I would probably have one.

Remember the cb250n superdream, I hated it and thought anyone who brought one was a tasteless moron (oddly I loved the previous cb250t dream) but thousands of UK riders loved them and they sold thousands.
BMW bikes are absolutely brilliant they are built for Europe (were most of us live) the roads are full of them and they complete more miles all year long then their rivals. First choice for emergency services when something goes wrong back up in most cases is amazing. Telelever front end is genius make average riders look brilliant. I have with the exception of 250 superdream and FT 500 never met a two wheeler I did not love.
Greatest tourer in the world for 3.5K... no brainer.

Not often, but will have to challenge you on that. Emergency services don't pay VAT on their purchases and each manufacturer undercuts the wholesale price to promote sales and wave the brand flag.

BMW offer massive discounts to secure these fleet purchases through hard strapped public funds & once the fleet garage has been sucked into buying the necessary hardware,software and relevant tooling it's hard to justify moving away.

I was saddened when the old bill moved away from Pan Europeans because of the alleged speed wobble & truly horrified as the French gendarmes have been forced off of the ageing FJR.

Years ago Essex Police reintroduced motorcycles to traffic police (having got rid of them as fleet could purchase a Rover 414 which carried 2 coppers and equipment, for less than a solo. However when escort/rapid deployment duties where needed they sub contracted to the Met Police Solos as again a cheaper option for things like the Southend air show)
So Essex bought all of Jersey Police's Pans as they were all low mileage/over serviced due to the Islands size
