Greedy EBaystards!

Post by Newtsalad » Fri Dec 10, 2010 1:56 pm

Not content with taking nearly 20% of the price of a £50 item, in listing fee, commission, PayPal fees, transaction fee, and taxes, the Baystards are now placing advertising on the pages!
Is there no limit to the greed of these SOB's?

It is an incredible amount for doing not that much, traditional auctioneers do much more work and charge less!
Is this same 20% charged to businesses? I'm not exactly sure how it works.

Yes, it is. 20p listing fee, 9.9% of the finish price. Paypal 20p per transaction, 4.3% commission. Plus VAT.

I had a 'cash on collection' item a while back so of course paypal weren't involved but I'm pretty sure I still got charged the same!!

That is rip off prices. I have never sold anything on ebay and probably wont do now. I think with Ebid you register for £50 and then 0% when your item sells. Or you dont register and its 3% if your item sells. Either way its better than ebay.

Trouble is there's no buyers on eBid. I tried selling my Daelim 125 on there after I passed my test, the listing was viewed four times in the ten days it ran.

I stuck it on Gumtree and it was gone in two days to a nice man who paid me in used £20s and took it away. No listing fee, no commission, no Paypal fees and no VAT - one day all bike sales will be like this 8-)

To be fair though, Ebay's fees do sting, but you've also got one hell of an audience for your wares, it is global.... one cub engine i sold a year or two ago went to Hungary!! :)

On a different note (off topic again.... sorry!) I've been learning how to spot a fake Gibson guitar because I knew there's a few on ebay, I've got pretty quick at doing it now as there's some easy to spot tell tale signs, just went fake hunting tonight and had the shock of my life........ there's dozens of fakes, over half of them :o , hundreds of pounds worth of rip off per guitar!
