West Sussex - 1997 XJ 600 Diversion Yamaha £1450 withdrawn

For sale at the moment on Facebook Marketplace:-

https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/it ... 9716394359

This is my Divvy 6 that I picked up just after the first lockdown in 2020.

Forced to close their showroom due to the pandemic, Gedge's Yamaha dealership instead had staff come in to clear their lockups, filled with bikes.

This 600 Divvy had covered just 7000 miles and was in pretty good shape in general despite being stored for the best part of 20 years.

The carbs were ultrasonically cleaned, plus new hoses and seals meant it could run on E10, though I've largely decided not to. A new Yuasa battery, a set of Michelins, and some genuine Yamaha fork seals and it was ready for an M.O.T.

This is where I came in, picking it up to use as a bland, boring easy to live with turn-key bike that didn't attract attention. I've added a Givi rack and some fork gaiters, and just replaced the brake pads with EBC sintered ones. It runs like a new bike, well one a few years old. belying its 25 years of age.

It's a real Vauxhall Diesel Corsa of a bike. Unexciting maybe but with a super smooth linear power delivery. Some hate that, I love it. It costs a pittance to run, too. Insurance for me is £65 per year fully comprehensive, and it does 65 mpg on A roads and motorways.

That said, I'm always in two minds as to whether I should sell it or not. Though it's great, I don't really need it, it's one more thing to look after, and i still get wet feet if it rains.

It's now done a paltry 9000 miles, and one thing I've found is that it is a real marmite bike. Far from flying under everyone's radar, some folks can't help but comment on how lairy the colour is, especially having a real 90s-chic colour coded frame. Others will stand, pore over it, poke it and take photos as though it's a vintage bike, mainly because "I had one about 20 years ago ..." so it makes friends easily too. It's been featured in the bike-park photos of few vintage shows now, much to my amusement.

It's up on Facebook Marketplace for £1450. I have been offered more but when pressed both potential buyers turned out to be nostalgic dreamers, and fell through.

If someone from the forum wants it, I'll happily reduce that to £1400 simply not to have to answer anyone wanting to swap for a non-running 'ped with no V5 or convinced that, "Itz ony wurth free hunnerd qwid bruv."

Collection from me in West Sussex.

Due to the fact that I'm running out of time to do all the motorbike related stuff I want to do this year, I am keeping it.

Albeit not perfect for my needs it's perfectly good enough.

An offer of the asking price prompted me to look at whether selling it and buying something else was a viable option. It wasn't, so the Divvy is staying put.

I was at Squires today talking with a guy with a Divvy, he'd come to the same conclusion, he couldn't find anything to replace it with. :D

Cheers guys!

A case of me finally reaching the logical conclusion that anyone sensible could already see.
