I think everybody sussed you meant choke! Well done for sorting it.
I use Asda's cheapest 'smart price' mineral oil myself. Some folk use semi-synthetics with no problems.
Just avoid car type synthetic oils with 'anti friction' additives, as they make the Cub's clutch slip like billy-o (car clutches aren't immersed in the oil like bike clutches) . Cheapest is actually best really!
Change it every thousand or so miles (no worries if it goes a bit over)
Until you get to know your own bike's oil habits it's wise to keep an eye on the level every few days, especially check it after a long A-road blast.. Some high-mileage Cubs can burn oil at sustained high speed cruising, and there's not much in there to burn! Others never use a drop between changes, just get to know yours to be on the safe side!

Brilliant, will do. Im a student and student finance still haven't given me most of my money, i'm far from flush at the moment, they are the worst company ever to deal with! Cheap asda 10/40 mineral oil it is, i'll check tomorrow evening and if needed do the change then (as long as it isn't raining horribly), if not ill top up if needed and do it over the weekend
Just a thought... what do I do with the old oil?

Save it in a large container like an empty 2l coke bottle with lid. This will hold at least 3 oil changes. When its time to get rid the local council re cycling centre. Or if you are on friendly terms with a mechanic he might let you lob it in with his. Thats what I do.charlie_88 wrote:

Just pour it into the village pond, it'll look like a pretty rainbow!charlie_88 wrote: Just a thought... what do I do with the old oil?
Some garages will take it, might charge, or council run refuse/recycling centres take it for free, just pour it in the tank there.
Our local tip has just gone private, and won't now take old oil, but the council ones do.

Re security. Your bike is probably more vulnerable at your college. Make sure you chain it to something solid with a hefty chain and lock. Remember, they're light enough to be carried off by a couple of low-lifes.
