hello everybody

Post by ransomovitch » Mon Aug 15, 2022 2:45 pm

hello everybody, my name is steve from uckfield east sussex and I am the proud owner of an almost concourse 1978 c90z2. My neighbour of 40 years died and his widow told me I could have it! It had been stored under blankets in his garage since 1979 when it stopped running after just 548 miles on the clock! It needed the carb cleaning properly and an oil and petrol change of course, and new tyres and innertubes that had split with age, and my neighbour had also plugged in some of the connectors wrong blowing the fuse every time the ignition was turned on. I stuck an advert in our local community news for anybody with c90 electrics experience and was delighted by the number of people who volunteered to help me get her back on the road. She's beautiful! I used to ride a C50 in the mid-70s and so getting back on Sally (named after neighbour's widow) has been a rush! I won't ever sell her but do any of you have an idea of approximate value?

Welcome!

It really looks mint from that pic. It is indeed good that there are helpful people who know out there and on this forum.

As to the value, it's obviously only worth what someone will pay for it, you may get different opinions on here but generally whassitwurf posts tend to get ignored.

Best advice is to keep an eye on eBay listings and see what Z2s are fetching.

Someone may be along at some time to give advice about greasing behind the chrome trims on the front forks.

Difficult to give prices but i can't ever remember seeing a Z2 that wasn't Blue or Red.
Elephant Grey i believe is the colour of that one.
Anywhere upwards of £2000 if your'e looking for an insurance replacement estimate.
I remember them swapping hands as field bikes for £20 in the early 80s

Nothing to worry about. I'm no expert but Mat (Chickenchaser90) advises this. :D

Hola Cub spotters... welcome to part 3 of your favourite Cubspotting guide.
Honda undertook plenty of small changes to the UK Cub range for '77. Nothing major, but enough to warrant a new name, including some rationalisation of parts and spec between the three models (not much yet though!!) and lots of detail changes. In typically Honda fashion the new models were introduced long before the old models were withdrawn so, starring from May of 1977, ladies and gentlemen, I bring you...

Part 3 - Plonk Rock - the Z2 and ZZ models...

C50/70/90 Z2 ('77 - '79)

Although a new range of Cubs with many detail changes, the frame and engine numbering on the Z2 models continued as before, the frame number starting with the model (C50, C70 or C90) and the engine number starting with C50E, C70E or C90E.

First an overview of the changes which occured to all three models...
The Z2 Cubs were launched in May 1977, in the middle of the 'R' registration suffix. Whereas the old C50, C70 and C90 - had their own individual colour palettes, the Z2 united the range with the choice of a bright red (similar to the existing C50 & C90 colour) a bright mid blue (a new one, brighter than the old C50/70), a new bright mid green (think Kermit the frog!) and if you couldn't stand the intense RGB brightness, good old Elephant Grey (as used on previous 50 & 90). - All four colours were now available on all three bikes!! anges ever to hit the Cub.. 12 volts with cdi ignition, and a whole new (but old) frame, which is shared between all three models!![/color] :o
