Hi there from Essex
Seeing as I'm gonna be using some of your info and ideas I thought it'd only be polite to introduce myself. I'm Simon, from Croydon, but I live in Chigwell, Essex. I've been riding bikes for 13 years (don't say it, 2 years ago was the unlucky one, 60mph nose dive on my old blade!) I started on a Peugot Speedfight 100cc and have had bigger bikes since then, but this C90 was a steal at £200, good runner, only 1 owner from my mechanic friend who was going to use it as a project winter bike for his apprentice, until I gave him my bike to do this to over Winter instead!!!!
It's a marmite bike- even most Aprilia Owners don't like it, so I don't expect you to like it! But it was my design, my paint scheme, and mostly implemented by an 18 year old apprentice, I love it and that's all that counts.
The C90 is what you want to see probably
No V5, so waiting for that, then a good service and mot, tax, insurance. Then I think with petrol prices at the mo I will be using it to get the 15 miles to work near the Elephant and Castle (just did the maths on my Mille and it's not good- the race airbox, chip and pipe I just put on have reduced the mpg from 35 to about 30 on the trip to work), then using my Aprilia when I get the cash and parts to work on the C90- plan is to restore it just a bit, then ride it through Winter and sell it to buy another project next year- but I won't promise not to become attached to it, keep it and still buy another next year- just don't tell the missus.
Little question, the chain guard. My one is rusty to say the least, do I need it (obviously I will need a top guard for mot), or can I take it off- what are the pros and cons of doing that and where could I get a replacement cheaply?

Hi Pieman, welcome to the C90 Club
£200 is a total steal these days even with a ripped seat cover. The chain guards often rust and one reason is the water drain holes on the underside get blocked.
Change the oil now (10w40 semi synth, NEVER fully synth) and do it again at 500-800 miles

thanks I think I'll like this forum. BTW The top box will be up for sale as soon as I have the time to take it off and clean it up. Says Rickman on the box but I'm not sure about the white (plasticoated?) framework its attached to. Not a big fan of hard luggage, got loads of kriega stuff.

Oh I hope you do, there's a lot of really friendly folk on here, many very helpful, many very knowledgeable. I live near the Elephant by the way! Looking at the Strata right now.pieman wrote:thanks I think I'll like this forum.
I'm not sure about the box but the rack looks good quality.

Re: Hi there from Essex
Welcome! Changing the chaincase is straight forward, but it's worth noting how they interleave with each other. If you don't get this right when replacing it it'll rub and give you problems.

Re: Hi there from Essex
One of the first things I do when ever I get a 'new' bike is to take the chain guard off, clean it thoroughly and paint it inside and out with a suitable rust proofing paint. That's why all of my bikes end up with a black chaincase.

Hiya & welcome to C90Club.
I'm super local; off Tomswood Hill.
I'm trying to work out where you live from the photos; I'm guessing somewhere off Manford Way?
