Need to save my old 6 volter.
Hi everyone, have thankfully just registered with your club and wish to introduce myself. My name is Brian and I live in Clitheroe East Lancashire. I proudly own a Honda C90 Z2 6 volt which I rescued some decades ago as it was being thrashed around farm land. I’ve treated her well over the passage of time but now she smokes like a Cuban cigar, has a rattley timing chain, has a mysterious oil leak around the spark plug and the gear linkage has a mind of it’s own. Basically she’s very tired and I need help as to which way to go. Would like to keep everything original and have the engine rebuilt (have no idea who’d do that) plus the head may be cracked which may explain the oil leak and smoking or do I find another breed of engine that will fit?? This is where I’m at guy’s so would appreciate any help and guidance you an offer me. Thanks.

A member on here,Alan CF,does engine rebuilds.He’s in “recommended suppliers”and comes highly recommended.He’s in Chesterfield,Derbyshire.
Alternatively you could fit a Chinese motor, like a Lifan 110,but it’s not a straight fit and needs a kit to do it.It’s also 12volt and will decrease the value of the bike.

Lifan 110 with brackets and 12 volt conversion will be more reliable . No one does 6 volt 90 repairs as parts are not so easy to find and Alan hates them.

Re: Need to save my old 6 volter.
Hi everyone, thanks for your acceptance and kind advice, most appreciated. I’d like to keep her original but as I’ve just read and expected spare parts are like the quest for the holy grail!! Have heard about the Lifan transplant and some say there a good enough engine but you need to completely strip them down and rebuild from scratch otherwise they are very likely to disintegrate as Lifans assembly and quality control are a bit hit and miss. Whichever way I go it’s going to be an adventure/learning curve so am feeling better knowing you guys with a wealth of experience are nearby. Cheers

Re: Need to save my old 6 volter.
Sorry about my reply,re Alan not doing 6v re-builds,I didn’t know that.
Regarding the Lifan engine,I had one of the early ones which had problems with the third gear not engaging.Mine lasted 5k.I then had a second one which was in the bike until I sold it without any problems at all.Bogger has had them too and has written good reports on them, even took it on the continent.
Never heard of anyone rebuilding a new one before using them.

Re: Need to save my old 6 volter.
Thanks for your replies. So would the Lifan 110 be the engine of choice as opposed to the larger cc versions and would they be 4 speed semi auto? Used to be a welder in a former life so could fab the conversion kit unless it’s more cost effective just to buy one? Also you say Lifan is 12 volt so have to admit I’ve a deep rooted phobia of wiring so will need some guidance on that one . Right so I’ll need to track down these Lifans and maybe a conversion kit and check out what deals are available. This is a great start thanks everyone so much.
Also Steve ST 100 Yeah I’m well used to seeing you on the quad over the years so will make myself known when I see you at Tesco.
