Thank you for the link and the advice joefish, I will keep you posted.

My wonderful neighbour is going to look at it today, unfortunately with covid, I am not going to be able to be looking at it with him, but hopefully he will find the problem and I will keep you posted ;)

Two things. On my later 1986 90, 12 v I had the same problem and it drove me crazy, took months to find the fault and I changed pretty much everything.
It was the ignition switch. It was earthing just enough that it would start every single time, tick over happily, and die when you tried to put on any throttle at all. Whether this is relevant to the zz models I don't know.

Second thing, I have a CT200, the older push rod engine. I had similar difficulties, and the carb flange face was distorted, so it leaked air. While the bike is running, spray around with WD 40 or similar. If it gets sucked in anywhere it should cause the revs to increase as it combusts.

Oh, and I concur with Bogger. Definitely better to try to sort the original carb. They are without doubt better than 99% of the Chinese replacements.

Thank you Newtsalad!!!

My neighbour is looking at the bike as we speak - I wish I could be there with him learning, one of the inconvenient of covid :(

I'll send your advice to him now as well. I have faith in him he is very good. I hope today-tomorrow I can come back to you, letting you know what was the problem... fingers cross...

Loadedtoad, you got it!!! It was the condenser.

I am very overwhelmed and really grateful for the help of ALL of you. I have never experienced something like this before.

My neighbour... such an amazing individual, and you guys sharing information with the only purpose of helping each other...

Covid maybe making our life's "a bit" different... but experiences like this, it really restores the believe in humanity.

Riding the C90 1981 (same year as I am) makes me smile, but fixing it with a community like this, makes my heart beat!!!

Guys THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Excellent! :D So glad you are sorted!

And thank you for returning and updating us on the outcome. This valuable information will doubtless help many readers who will follow and not even need to post.

The forum has now been running 12 years in April. And there is a wealth of information here contributed most generously by our members. and an admin team that do their best to ensure info posted is correct.

Finding that info is another matter! Our housekeeping isn't the best, and there are many gems lost in threads around the board, but we just love the way threads evolve! Google does a good job for us though. It can be better than our search box. Just search in Google, and add C90club.co.uk on the end and likely it will find what you are looking for. :D :D :D
