Rattly sound...
I have a 2014 wave 110... I have recently changed the oil and air filter but when I start her up she sounds like she has a slight rattle from the engine. A bit like a helicopter at times. Lol... The poor gal has done quite a few miles. Around 30k to be precise.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what it may be or how to solve it?

Re: Rattly sound...
Have you done all those miles & serviced the scoot?
How much oil came out, how much did you put in, how black was it then
my first suggestion would be cam chain tensioner

It has been serviced regularly... About a leatre of oil came out pretty black to be honest. I put it enough just below the max on the dipstick. And it sounded rough before I took out the camchain tensioner too. Maybe thag could be the problem?
She has no problem running or riding just noisy.

Re: Rattly sound...
It would be more than likely the Cam chain tensioner, they are an auto adjusting wound spring loaded jobbie, after many miles the spring looses it "spring" , and can no longer put enough pressure in the cam chain to keep it quiet,
Had with a 20,000 mile innova, that had a rattle, I took out the Cam tensioner and it still has an amount of restance so I thought it was fine, it wasn't untill I brought a new one that i noticed difference in pressure from the spring. Once fitted all was quiet.
Thanks Terry

Ah brilliant thanks for that... Where did you buy it from I have checked ebay but couldn't se anything on there. Anyone recommend a decent place to purchase this?
Also. Would you change the spring and head part at the same time?

Re: Rattly sound...
Sorry, I just asummed that because the Wave was made from 2012 it had the same tensioner set up as the Innova, and it doesn't, having looked at the parts diagram its very simular to a cub design, which are normally very reliable at keeping the chain tensioned, when a cub cam chain starts to rattle normally means its time for a replacement of the Cam chain itself.Markfillery wrote: ↑Fri May 15, 2020 5:51 pmAh brilliant thanks for that...
