New Honda C90 Owner

Post by Postal Services » Wed May 13, 2020 5:55 pm

Hello,
I've just registered for the Club, and I'm already impressed. So many new member in April alone. Good to see an active membership.

I've just bought my first Honda having been a BMW owner for many years.
I've got something a little different. Honda MD90, mail delivery bike originally produced for the Post Office in Japan.

Has anyone else got one? (Apart from Mark Of Seven seas Motorcycles.)

I'm learning very quickly that some parts are very hard to get hold of. Not surprising really. But I'm sure you all will be a good source of info.

Thanks for the welcome.
1. it's good to know there are other MD90 owners on here, I feel I'm likely to need some experienced advice before too long on items special to that model.
2. hi Barker, very short answer the luggage racks front and back. I did a ride in Oz last year where we went camping on CT110s, and never having ridden anything like a C90 before I was very impressed. I don't trust myself to take pillions on my other bikes , so thought it better to substitute the back seat for a rack. I do intend to take the bike on some adventures, camping etc when I'm allowed out. The strong build of the MD is really impressive. Plus it's a low Kms/mileage bike in very good condition, and of course the price was right.

Hi & welcome from another MD owner. Like you, I like the rugged build of the bike, not that I go very far, it just appealed to me. As far as working on the bikes, they seem to be much the same as the 90s & Silvers seem to be able to get some spares - presumably a lot are the same as the 90s & they can find what`s what & I assume they have lots of reference books.
I got my 2006 model a year or so back from seven seas & have been very pleased with it. All I have done is cleaned down the underside of the rear mudguard & put lots of layers of paint on, cleaned/painted the insides of the wheels which were starting to rust& sprayed some rust preventer in all the nooks & crannies. I have also changed the front sprocket for one with an extra tooth & like the 90s, it doesn`t make a great difference as long as you don`t have too many steep hills near you!
I`m sure you will love it & just keep changing that oil regularly, same as the 90s. :D

Hi Harps,
Good to know I'm not quite alone. As I said earlier I rode a CT110 last year and was very impressed with the strength of it. The roads we went on would have broken many other bikes, but they just kept on going.
That said, I was a bit impatient to get on the road so tried my bike out very soon after I had bought it. It's been standing for a long time and everything was stiff and unused. The throttle stuck open and very quickly I was on my side in the road. Doh  No harm done except that the hand brake lever hit first and broke. So More haste less speed, I'm off the road until I can get a replacement.
So far I put in an order at CMS Nederlands, but they've sent me the wrong lever. Hopefully they will come up with the correct one, but I'll keep looking at UK sites, so Silvers is not one I had heard of yet. Thanks for that.

One other thing, have you looked around for any new tyres for the 14in wheels.Looks like that is going to be another difficulty. My local tyre fitter doesn't have any listing for them at all. I've ordered a pair from Seven Seas but a source in this country would be useful.

Shame about the brake lever & I can`t help with a UK supplier for tyres - the only one that I have bought was from Germany & made in Thailand & was a Vee Rubber. That`s one of the penalties of going a bit different :) Tubes I think I got from Demon Tweeks.

Mytyres stock the Vee Rubber 2.75-14 tyres.

I'm pretty sure that Wemoto used to but don't seem to list them at the moment.
